No. It's their job to influence students. They should help influence them to study, to work hard, to play fair, to be honest, to aim high, and to be good citizens. And the students parents should do the same, too.

No teachers should not be prohibited from using persuasive techniques to influence their students. It's not like the teacher is saying " I'll give you five extra points on your quiz if you jump of a building." Besides these kind of techniques help them to develop helpful study habits.
Even though persuading students is helpful way to help them do the right things, they might get to dependent on rewards. Which they might actually learn the hard way in the real world, that you're not always going to be rewarded for your actions.

Well teaching is all sales anyway! You've got to sell the students on why it's important for them to learn. Sales is all persuasion! How would we teach without persuasion!
Now I do not believe we should make evangelism the focus either! By that I mean the far right or the far left point of view. We need to teach the students facts they can use to become life long learners! You know reading, writing, arithemetic!
People who are willing to educate themselves all along the way are the most productive members of our society!

Omg. HECK no! thats just crazy. Its not just public schools all teachers do it. NO NO NO! We need some kind of persuasion. If that were to happen bored students will drop out. I can't even believe that question...What are trying to say? Sabotage the public schools. Private schools are so dumb anyway. They don't deserve the things they get. Im just angry now!

They shouldn't use such techniques to persuade students to become republicans or democrats, or to espouse any particular religion. But I see nothing wrong with teachers persuading students to appreciate physics or calculus, for example.
