Here's a good answer to ponder...

Satan only cares about fighting against his enemies.
If Christianity is the only religion that is 'attacked', does that not give a great proof that it really is the only true religion?

Live not of this earth but live as the citizen of heaven.
Jesus said we would be persecuted.
Why should we expect to not be?

As for your actual question...
I fully agree. I would take it even further though...
There should be government funding to parents who choose to home school their children to the degree that they would be very comfortable living on this pay.
It is a FACT that home schooled children are at least twice as smart as publicly schooled children.
I've seen evidence every time I speak to a home schooled child(about once or twice a week). They can carry on a very intelligent conversation from as early as 8 years old using words many adults don't even know.

Why not just take education out of the government's hands? It would save money and raise achievement. Private schools perform as well as public schools or better despite far less funding. Homeschooling achieves even better results (America was actually a far more educated country before schooling began).

As long as we have public schools, they should be required to teach all sides of contentious issues. It is hypocritical for the ACLU to get the Supreme Court to prohibit bans on evolution and then turn around and get both creationism and intelligent design banned. It is called indoctrination when they teach only Al Gore's side of the Global Warming story and they ignore the other theories, such as solar-caused global warming that have more evidence on their side. It doesn't make any sense to prohibit schools from offering a class on religion, provided that class is religion-neutral. If they're going to have sex education, they shouldn't ignore either abstinence or condoms. They should celebrate all holidays without any bias. They should also fix the bias in history books, which tends to glorify big government and often appears blatantly wrong to anybody who thinks about it (for example, they ignore early American history, Thomas Jefferson's Kentucky and Virginia resolutions that were pro-secession, the Confederate view of the Civil War, why the Democrats lost the 1920 election to a guy who never campaigned, and why the Federal Reserve caused the Great Depression, which even the Fed itself admits).

The 1st Amendment does include a Separation of Church and State. However, the Supreme Court gets it wrong. Government is prohibited from establishing an official religion, which means that they cannot favor any particular religion nor can they favor atheism.

It would be preferable to get rid of public schools, but if we have them, we should at least ensure that they teach rather than indoctrinate.

Teaching sex education that only focuses on abstanence is waht we have now, and the kids don't learn ANYthing. I was in such a class 3 years ago, and the teach couldn't answer any of our questions becaue they were "inappropriate" and "offensive to religious types", and they were everyday sex quetions!!

On the note about evolution and global warming. While it is completly true they are just "theories", they are theories that the VAST MAJORITY of scientists believe, and you fail to realize that almost every aspect of science we can't measure with mathematics is considered a THEORY. Einstien's Theory of Relativity, the biological Theory of cellular development, the list goes on. They are widley accepted as fact but can't be credited as laws cause we lack the technology....

I am fine with creationism as a belief, I just don't think it should be taught in science classes cause it has no scientific merit, whereas evolution/global warming do.

You can teach these beliefs in a designated reliougous class, but then you would have to include the beliefs of creation of all major religons, including ideas of reincarnation by Hindus, and other theories of creation from Judism, Islam, etc. And what about atheists? Bringing any religious beliefs into schools open up a whole new can of worms.

Almost all those subjects you talked about have disclaimers before they are taught to kids. And just so you know, creationism and "globlal warming don't exist" are also just theories. You teach just Facts and you'll run out of subject matter in a few weeks, and you will hinder all prospective scientists that could some day do the world alot of good.

Peace

1) Sex education
Sex education is about teaching awareness. Teaching abstinence may have it's benefits but in reality its like trying to teach teenage boys not to masturbate. If they're gonna go ahead and do it besides what you tell them you may as well teach them how to do it properly/safely right?

2) Religion
Religion belongs in four places - Church, Religious Studies, History and anthropology classes.

3) Theories of the creation
Again. Unless you're talking abiogenesis (which is a valid scientific theory), keep it to religious studies or anthropology.

4) Evolution
Evolution is a valid scientific theory and is beneficial to biological science, particularly for those who wish to go on to medical schools.

5) Global warming
Whether you like it or not, the evidence shows that ozone damage and climate change is primarily anthropogenic.

6) "assumptions should be up to the parents to teach"
That would be valid if all of the above truly were "assumptions", Sadly, they aren't. Anyone who even begins to suggest that they are is clearly deluded.

Actually, I would like to see Public Schools teach trades as well. In my town we have 2 adjunct campuses of Local High Schools who teach trades. The funding comes from local business. No Government funds. Don't want or need them. Highly successful. This would actually be productive. It sure is here.
And yes, I am a Conservative, but am not going where you want me to with that question. You are going to get enough hate responses, so I thought I would break that up with a little logic. Maybe an actual idea and solution. See how many you get from the rest of you answers.

Wow, I need to apologize, there are some GREAT answers hear. My hat is off to you folks.
Great question!!!

Since the USA is falling behind in many of the basics, maybe they should stick to the core education subjects.

Fortunately, the schools are no more bound by your brand of thought control than that of the religious rignt. One's as bad as the other.
