Im 16 my mom and dad finally allowed me 2 get it pierced im getting it pierced after we are out of school. Its not that i like that kind of thing but im 16 i have always been tought that my studies come first before anything thus keeping me from doing things that i really wanna do. For example i cant go out on a school night with my friends. Im tired of always doing what my mom and dad want so ive decided to get my lip pierced. My mom freaked lmao out when i told her my dad was more cool about it. I mean i researched eveything like the after care, the place where im getting it pierced has professionals everything. It just doesnt say how long you have to keep the original jewelry.

From what I have two months is about the average time to keep your original jewelry in. Also remember that with the piercing proper healing consists of rinsing your mouth after every meal and brushing your teeth at least three times a day. Also eating right will help any cut or hole heal faster. When rinsing try not to use a painful or minty type of wash best to use: dilute 4 ounces of an oral antiseptic with 4 ounces of water. Depending on how well you take care of it will determine how much time it needs to heal so that you can change your jewelry. When it is healed it will have a whitish yellow fluid(not puss). I hope this helps. Oh and try not to open your mouth widely.

You should really keep it in for a couple of months before you change it. But if you wanted to change it a few weeks after you got it pierced and you weren't you going to change it again for a long time, it would be okay. I have had my lip pierced for about 3 years now and it still closes up some if I leave my piercing out for a day, so it takes a long time for it to fully heal. And if possible, I would suggest getting a stud put in rather than a ring. Mine healed a lot faster with a stud.. The ring kept irritating the hole, and plus it does wear down your teeth and gums (so watch for it, you may have to take it out if your gums are suffering).

I have had mine pierced for a year now i only kept it in for like 2 weeks before i changed the jewelry but beware it will chip your teeth bad if you have a circular ring in it.
