Why do you feel pressured to give her a ring? She's looking for an engagement ring and if you are not ready to do that....don't And what is a promise ring? That sounds like something someone gives when they are not mature enough to handle the real thing. If you haven't decided this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life together with then a nice piece of jewelry or something else special to her is fine as a gift. You two need to talk. Sounds like she's working on perspective marriage and you aren't.

What are you promising? Why the pressure? If you thought it was a good idea you wouldn't be asking us on Answers. Better speak up or before you know it you'll be walking down the aisle and buying a minivan! I know you say you love her, but if she loves you, she won't pressure. Buy her a necklace...and then have a long talk about where each of you think the relationship is going.

I think she is actually after an engagement ring. If you are not yet ready for this step, buy her something else, a pendant or bracelet for e.g. Tell her that marraige is a big step, and that even after dating for a year, you are not yet ready for such a big responsibility.
