Socialists share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital and derives wealth throught the explotation of the worker. Liberal Democrats believe that capitalist is not unfair, but a by-product of capitalism is that as you propel youself forward in life, you help others with you along the way. That an American acheiving the American dream, is paying taxes, and propelling others that are weaker/infirm/retired/disabled along with them. Communism is a terrible thing that should never even by brought up. Go read Doestoevsky's classic novel, "Crime and Punishment," to learn what life is really like under a true Communist Regime. It really has no place in this discussion and anyone that compares the poverty, the life under a dictator instead of a President, and the truly corrupt government, that censors what it's citizens can read, and see on television, to universal healthcare, is truly ignorant.

Scandinavian model is not socialism or communist of any form the state does not own large swaths of the economy like France, or Italy. Sweden and Demark have strong safety net, and flexible setup to meet the demands of the world economy, and the people agree with the setup. Socialism like France, Italy, or Latin America is the type needs to go to the dustbin. Ango or Scandinavian style free markets is the way to go. Statistism or Socalism French style is terrible for the economy. Giving incentives for education, work training is key to the economy, and safety net sometimes make the job markets more flexible, but giving handouts to the wrong people discourages work. Handout to the mentally hanicapped, or people that mentally or phsyically cant work is fine, but for average person its fine when they down on luck, but you cut it off after a certain time so they dont become dependant on the goverment for thier wellbeing.

Its only working in the countries it is in now because they have a
Low immigration rate
Their population is small compared to the USA
And they still benefit from capitalism through trade
and other methods.
And if they didnt have that they would probably fail.
The motivation for excellence is diminished often with socialism. If it werent we wouldnt see so many people come to the USA for things.

Those people do not have freedom or rights.
In Sweden there is no dissent, if you were talking trash like the AMericans do about Iraq, you might get brought before a judge before you were sent to prison, or you might just be sent to prison, no trial, no representation, just jail
SO if that is what you are talking about I think AMerica will pass.

It is a perfectly feasible system that makes much more sense than Laissez-Faire Capitalism. Unlike Communism, Social Democracy works because it fights corruptions by public elected officials. It benefits the average worker by keeping companies from getting greedy. many Socialist ideas are in place here in America and most people would say that if theses systems were eradicated it would be "UN-American." Some of these are Labour Unions, Welfare, Subsidies, and taxes. Without these things half of our population would die and our economy would be in shambles.
The Welfare state can work, but we have to work to make it feasible.

socialism is communism lite. its government controlled capitalism with all public services being provided by the government. it's mainly a 2 class system with the upper class which includes government and business owners and the lower class that includes workers and shirkers. my knowledge of socialism is limited, but I don't have a desire to experience it. a free enterprise capitalism is good by me.

It is really debilitating. It takes an individual's initiative and penalizes him/her for it and for being productive and wanting to excel.
I believe a capitalistic society (and government) is far superior in theory and practice ...with one caveat. Somewhere within the culture must be a strong belief in helping your fellow man.

If you want to encourage it, you subsidize it. If you want to discourage it, you tax it.
Socialism discourages productive work by taxing those who work and subsidizing those who do not.
