We have to take our 4 month old on a 2 hour plane ride. Anyone have any suggestions for making her feel as comfortable as possible? (she is traveling on my lap)

I took my baby at the same age last yr on a plane. I kept her awake so that once the plane entered the runway, I gave her the bottle and she fell asleep. She too was on my lap. She liked to play peek-a-boo with daddy who was in the seat behind us. You can pack some snacks. Good luck. Also a good idea to change baby right before boarding. Not much room for that on a plane. Oh, and as a nurse I want to add, don't give the baby that young Benadryl. That would be intentionally drugging the baby to quiet them down. Can we say abuse? I hope you don't follow that person's advice. Also, you can wheel the stroller right up to the plane and they will have it there as soon as you get off the plane. That was great with everything else I had to carry plus 2 other kids to watch. Good luck.

im getting ready to travel from Japan to the east coast of the US ( 26 hours total...2 plane changes, 2 layovers) with a 3 month old and a 4 year old......believe me the last thing on my mind is that baby lol. Babies are very resilient and travel well, its when they are toddlers it gets scary. just bring a blanket to wrap her in and make sure she sucks during take offs and landings she will probably sleep the whole time.

Well the best you can do for your baby is to make her feel like she does at home and plan for that. Follow you schedule as best you can. If say she eats a bottle at 12noon and then naps try to plan for these things and keep her on that schedule. Make sure you have infants Tylenol handy if she teethes, have a blanket and pacifier if she uses one. Keep her favorite toys in your carry on bag and just keep yourself as calm as possible too. Your baby will know if you are stressed and will react to that too. Two hours isn't quite so bad so just keep her calm and happy and you will do just fine. Good luck on your trip honey.

I went on a plane with my son when he was 8 months old. I didn't buy a seat for him, but I took his carseat to the gate with me and asked if there were enough empty seats for me to bring it on. There were on the trip down, not on the trip back (so they just gate-checked it for me). Plan to nurse, bottle-feed, or have the baby suck on a pacifier for take-off and landing to alleviate ear pain. If you are nursing, you could just carry some large safety pins with you, get a window seat, get an airplane blanket, and pin it up for privacy. Get up and move around as much as you're allowed to help pass the time. Bring toys that you can shake in front of her and that she can practice reaching for.

just bring a blanket for her, when my daughter traveled at a young age she slept the entire time. also, if she uses a pacifier bring that for sure. keep in mind that the airlines have very strict policies about bringing liquids on the plane, so if your baby drinks formula you may want to call the airlines and see what you are allowed to bring. they may need to give you the water on the plane and you bring the powder, but im not totally sure.

Okay...

Bring lots of liquid, because Baby's ears are more sensitive to the air pressure, and swallowing frequently helps.

Bring things to comfort the infant such as stuffed animals, dolls, etc. Coloring books are fun, too, especially if you color with her.

Maybe bring a blanket, incase she gets tired or cold.

Most importantly...

Comfort her!

Have fun, hope this helps. Disneyholic

At 4 months old the only thing I can think of is taking something for him to suck on whether you nurse him, a bottle, or pacifier. You might also want to take a small toy or something. It's really easy when they're that little!

definite, a airplane experience with a three.5 mo previous is a daunting project. We took our 3.5 month previous from Massachusetts to San Antonio and then to Phoenix...She slept many of the time with one exception. quite, the airplane noise became so severe that it drowned out the crying. My pediatrician suggested that this turned right into a great time to take the vacation because her eustation (sp?) tubes are nevertheless very open. I gave her a bottle of breastmilk (I pump completely) and a pacifier upon take-off and landing. It helped that we had a separate seat for her on the airplane, onto which we connected her vehicle seat. i ought to pass for the breastfeeding at take-off and landing merely to make effective he's distracted and swallowing. carry an more effective blanket, because the flights are chilly! i became quite worried, too, in spite of the indisputable fact that it grew to change into out no longer to be so undesirable except for one quite nasty crying spell, yet then she went to sleep. desire all is going properly.

I took my son from Minnesota to Florida at 7 weeks. He did fine. Slept the whole time. We took him again at 2 and it was the most embarassing thing ever. He was loud and obnoxious. Babies are easier than toddlers and other passengers are surprisingly helpful when it's a little little baby involved.

Something for her to suckle on during take-offs & landings. Also, sit at bulkheads so that you have sufficient leg room to move about & you can request for a bassinet so that you can put the child down. A good airline that is child-friendly is a must.
