No, you made no mistakes. Perfect English. ;-)
I think he'll try to make France a safer country by not giving in to political correctness. But admittedly, I don't know that much about him.
I hope the riots in your country stop soon. That's a bad situation.

Sarkozy has promised and will hopefully bring economic gain to France which has been in an economic slump for a few years. Sarkozy is also pro United States, more than their former president Chirac.

However, once he gets into his position, he may move more to the center of mainstream views in France which is not too keen on taking U.S. stances (aka Iraq). With a narrow margin win over his opponent (53% vs. 47%), he may not be so zealous in his attitude and public rhetoric toward the U.S.

I think he will be good for France. After years of economic decline due to the heavy hand of bureaucratic socialism and bullying unions, Sarkozy has a chance to turn things around. He will, like Mrs. Thatcher did 30 years ago in UK, release the people from the stagnant soviet style economy. Maybe he should acknowledge that the US shed many thousands of its citizens lives saving France from the Germans twice in the 20th century

Very interesting as far as the rest of Europe is concerned.
It seems to follow that we all change our political stances around the same time - given when our general elections fall.
Might be time to go down the bookmakers and have a few ££ on a Conservative victory in the U K.

Well I read where he said that France will be there if the USA needs them and that is a very positive statement and I think good for us all.

I dont know much else about the guy.

I think it's bad news for us all. France has been a bit of a bastion of good sense in the face of American and British war-mongering, and has always held it's own traditions to be more valuable than the bland and invasive McDonalds/Starbucks/Gangsta Rap cultural imperialsm that has been sweeping through Europe from America while those of us in the UK have been worrying about losing our identity to a Federel Europe. A pro-American, pro-modernization right-winger is not really what the doctor ordered.

Without living there I am not one to judge. I hope whatever the reasoning is as to why people are so torn can be solved.
