My boyfriend recently decided to quit smoking for me. However, for the past night and all today he has been doing aweful. He started with night sweats, continues to sweat, has a migrane, looks like he's in terrible pain, and now has started vomiting, amoungst other things. I feel soooo bad, is there anything I can do? He is so weak and feels terrible, and has asked me a coupel times to get him a cig so it can go away. Of course I refuse, but I feel terrible. Is he going to be OK? He refuses to use the gum or patch. Please help, I feel terrible and need to help him. He just gets worse and worse.

The worst effects of nicotine withdrawal are the first 3 days, so if he can get through those he'll fell a lot better. But its also important to understand that the chemicals in cigarettes have different half-lives (the amount of time it takes for 50% of the element to be removed). That's why people have cravings after they've quit at 30, 60, 90, 180 days as well as 1 year. If he knows that those times will be coming up and has a plan on how to fight the cravings his odds of staying quit will be much higher.

Some people have a harder time to quit smoking. He needs to see a doctor for the best result of what he could do. Try the patch, nicotine gum, nicotine inhalers, and nicotine strips. My mom just stopped smoking a month ago.

Brave guy there. When I quit I quit cold turkey as well, btu I was lucky and didnt have all of thsoe problems. It shoudlnt last another day or two before it at least starts to get better. If it doesnt then he REALLY needs to try adn just step down instead of cold turkey-liek the patch.

My mom quit cold turkey, too. He'll be fine after about a week or two, when the addiction wears off.

He is going to be okay. He's going through withdrawal. He'll be sick like this for a few days. He'll throw up, get cold, get warm , and maybe get physical on you. Whatever you do, don't give in and give him ciggs!. It'll pay off
