It depends on how much access and play time your willing to spend on your new pet.
To be fare to a dog, you need alot of running around space and time to dedicate to the training and care of a dog..
Gerbils will mostly stay in their cages, they will run away big time if they get loose.
Rabbit's don't do much, they are soft but their waste gets into big pellets.
Fish just swim around.
Cats are testy and bossy.
Hamsters are good easy pets to take care of. And you can hold and play with them too. Teddy bears hamsters are most nicest of the types.
I would suggest a hamster.

A wonderful pet would be a bird. I personally own a bird and they do not need any work at all. If you decide on a bird just send me an e-mail and i'll give you some brand names for food and how to train them. They are beautiful animals. I recomend them for first time pet owners. Good Luck!

Rabbit. They are sweet, quiet, and fairly low maintenance. And if you go through the steps of rabbit proofing your home you can let your rabbit hop about freely. Hamsters are great pets as well.

I think the best pet(s) to get are/is a Berded Dragon or a Iguana. A horse is nice to! I like chickens and donkes to!!!!!

saltwater fish! a snake! but my favorite pick would be a bird there so beutiful!!!
