Once when I was 8 for a badly bruised leg (I was horseback riding and the horse fell on top of my leg and chest) and once when I was 9, the doctors thought I had meningitis. Luckily that wasn't the case! Haven't been to the hospital (for myself) since then.

Well, technically I was not in the hospital, but I had to have major reconstructive knee surgery on '03 (they couldn't 'scope it--the damage was too extensive) at a "surgery center". I still remember just before getting anesthetized I met the anesthetist, a black man who introduced himself as "Dr. Bootay"--it made me laugh! Then later I found out that was his real name!! (Though I'm sure it's spelled differently!)

When I awoke after the surgery the only thing I remember is being on my feet, having some nurse with a syrupy sweet southern accent telling me that I was ok, puking all over the floor, then being ushered out the door immediately where my wife was waiting with the van--INSANE!! This place was not 24 hours; it was run like a business with business hours.

I also have stayed in the hospital at least a night when all four of my kids were born, and then another several nights when my middle boy had to go to the hospital twice for his asthma.

Being in the hospital has some sort of strange quality--somehow it appeals to me. I'm probably crazy.
