i have a 2000 vstar 1100. oil light stays on after engine warms up. please help.........

my oil level is fine.

i just change the oil and thats when the oil light turned on. i used yamalube 10-40 recommended by the dealer. if it is the sensor, where is it located..can it be cleaned.....?

dahhhhhhhhh low oil. did u even check the level? if its ok, u should get it back to the shop. i'm so surprized u havent already trashed it

ok, I read you checked you oil level again! If you have the capabilities change the oil. Some times the oil sensors can receive a film on them causing them to read inaccurately. Changing the oil might fix it. The other thing is, what kind of oil are you using? Synthetic oil works the best for cleaning the inerts of the engine.

sometimes when you change the oil, the sensor will get an air bubble ( a "void") over it and it will not read the pressure. you may have to 'prime' the sensor by loosening it until a few drops of oil come out. tighten it up and try it again. if you still get the light on, or hear bad noises from your engine, head to a qualified mechanic!

I agree with Sandman on this one.
Why do you think they're called "idiot lights". To let the common layman know something's not right, to stop the machine and have it checked out.
Hopefully your bike was just a little low on oil and no damage was done to the engine.

Presuming that you already checked the oil and know that it's ok, it may be a bad sensor.
