i have the following configuration can anyone tell the amount of power my PC consumes - pentium D 820 , asus P5PE mobo , 512 mb ddr ram , samsung 80 gb hard disk , samsung DVD writer , optical mouse , keyboard , floppy disk drive . please my electric bills are driving me crazy ...

to power down does it mean putting the monitor on standby or PC to hibernate ? what should i do apart from putting monitor to standby after 20 mins ?

The cause is your 820D, which is one reason why Intel moved to the 9xx series, if my memory serves me right, it can draw upto 165w at full power just for the CPU, the 9xx series drops to around 95-130w.

Also change your power saving to power down after say 30mins.

I would imagine your setup would draw from 120W to 200W per hr,this is assume you are using onboard graphics.

I have upgraded all our computers to AMD AM2 energy models, on paper it looks great, 65W max, and Cool'n;Quiet will power down when CPU has nothing to do, dropping it down to around 20-30W before power saving kicks in.
