It's a lot better than paying Carl Pavano $40 million to win 5 games.

It is more than $18 million, first off. And George is 100% on pure ego and pride. He NEEDS to win, his ego can't take it if he doesn't. As the last several seaons have gone by and he has paid more and more money to field a team of allstars, he looks stupider and stupider for having done so. So along comes Clemens...right when NY pitching is devasted. Georgie took off his belt, wrapped it around his bloated age-spotted arm, and shot himself up with a big old dose of pride. The resulting high left him with a 44 year old pitcher expected to perform miracles and a $28 million dollar IOU sitting on the night stand.

The morale: Don't shoot up pride. It can cost you a lot.

And if you do, make sure you have a closer who doesn't look like a tee-ball tee to your division rival. It makes a waste of your prize purchases.

i say hes been smoking all the money he has because he has nothing to do with it. If you call wasting 20 mil. for a 45 year old guy to pitch for 1 season not even, you really must want to get rid of some cash.

Its about 26 million when you add the luxury tax he'll have to pay the league on top of Clemens' salary.
