people are calling him "rapist" all he did is took advantage of someone and yes thats called rape. from that point on he was a good person.
He has very very good sportsmanship, remember raja bell clothesline Kobe? and what did Kobe do? just got up and show no anger at Bell, if it was someone else(Carmelo,Artest,Resheed Wallace etc. -_-)
there would of been a fight for sure. Now look at this year game 5 Suns vs Lakers, when Suns won Kobe gave a HUG to Raja and Nash(got a fight with him in last years Suns vs Lakers). Kobe never brags, i wanna see 1 video of him being an asshole.
Oh yeah and about the ball hog thing if you watch laker games and look more into you can see how much Kobe is trying to get his team involve. As much i love the Lakers i have to say they really suck. and hes a SG not a PG ok...
For the poeple that think he is "over rated" i want to see who scores better then him. dont judge him by a team because not even the best player can get champ on his own.

Kobe is not over rated. He simply has the better skills then all the Nba players ( not disrespecting other stars, they are very good) Overrated is dwayne wade, w/Shaq they still got killed 4-0 to the Bulls. And w/o shaq with wade leading the team, they went 19-21 record, thats over rated my friend.
Kobe did tried to trust his team. its so obvious you rarely watch any lakers game, they only shoot good once in a while. He tried to trust them when they were on a losing streak. He average under 35 points, until a point where he cant trust them any more and put up 5 in a row 40+ points all Wins for lakers. Take out Kobe and put nash in the Lakers and Nash wont even smell 1 mvp. And Kobe puts up those rediculous shots because he can make them form anywhere. Look at lebron James yes he is a very very good player and look at his team, they play with confidence because they are good.

Why have the quotations around the word rape? The only reason he wasn't found guilty is that the case was settled out of court. Kobe's lawyers saw where the case was headed and made a deal. Colorado has one of the strictest laws in the nation about rape punishment; Kobe would have HAD to spend at least that season and part of the next in jail (18 months, I believe). They settled so that there was no chance of that. Doesn't change what he did, only the punishment for it.
Rape? It's not only rape, it's adultery. He was married. He cheated on his wife. If you are married, you have promised in a solemn oath that you will cherish that person above all others. He pissed on that relationship by doing what he did in Colorado. I'm surprised his wife stays with him now. The way he acted in Colorado he obviously has no respect for his wife.
Good sportsmanship? Talk to Kyle Korver or Raja Bell about that. They get elbowed or slapped in the face because they are playing good defense.
Good sportsmanship? Is it good sportsmanship to throw your teammates under the bus because they can't physically do the things you can? Talking down your teammates in the press is NOT good sportsmanship, nor is it good for team morale.
Ball Hog? Definitely. He averaged way too many shots for the low percentage he shoots. It's sickening to me, a Lakers fan for almost 40 years, to watch him jack up 20 foot fadeaway jumpers when he's got open teammates and time on the shot clock. He doesn't trust his teammates (because they aren't as talented as he is) and many times refuses to pass to open teammates. Yes, I watch as many Lakers games as I can. His teammates are NOT as bad as everyone makes them out to be. (Funny how the Lakers win early in the season when Kobe is sharing the ball and don't win as often when he scores more.) He has berated them in public and won't pass the ball to them when they are open. What are they to think? How are they to react? If you are told a lie often enough, you tend to believe it even though it is a lie. (One example is "I did not have sex with that woman")
Overrated? I believe so. If he really were that good, he'd lead the Lakers to more wins. Since Shaq left the Lakers they are 121-125 in the three regular seasons. If Kobe lived up to the hype, they would at LEAST have a winning record.
Overrated? Sure. There's a lot more to basketball than scoring points. All Kobe seems to do is score points at the expense of involving his teammates. That will lose games. Even MJ didn't win games until he trusted his teammates and shared the ball, and Kobe can't carry MJ's shoes.
Guysshortyssk8 - Kobe IS on my team, and I ain't kissing his a**. I wish he would be traded. He's killed the Laker tradition of winning. It's going to take a while to recover and get back to the glory days. Yes, he's a great player, but he's a "me-first" player and "me-first" players NEVER win championships. Ask Jerry West or Gail Goodrich or Magic Johnson or James Worthy or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Shaquille O'Neal or any other Lakers team leader who led his team to the championship.

I think it's more of a reaction by people today not recognizing the players of the past. I for one am tired of hearing today's players are the best ever. They are the most ATHLETIC ever...and in 20 years, the players will be even moreso. I blame ESPN for glorifying the present players as the best ever. They are quick to overhype any above average performance as Earth shattering.
To say Kobe is a good sport is wrong. He's elbowed defenders who dare to try to block his shots. That's not being a good sport.
Plus, he IS an overrated defender...no way he's truly a first team All NBA defender...he gets that award because he's Kobe.
He's a great player, but still has a ways to go to be considered the best.

Okay, here's why someone could hate Kobe and none of the following reasons involve him being a rapist.
1.) His ego caused what could have been the most dominating teams in NBA history to be cut short because he could not get along with Shaq. That is probably the biggest reason why someone would hate Kobe. And yes, no matter what you think about what happened in LA, Phil Jackson, Shaq, and Dr. Buss all know that it was Kobe who broke up the dynasty.
2.) The Lakers winning percentage correlates with Kobe's scoring in an inverse relationship. At the beginning of the year, Kobe scored less and the Lakers won more. Then Kobe started to increase his scoring by mid-season to the end of the season. What happened to the Lakers during that time? They loss. Alot. What does this suggest? Does Kobe make his team better? Interestingly, when Kobe sits out with injuries vs when Odom sits out with injury, the Lakers have a better record when Kobe sits out.
3.) Phil Jackson has gone on record (read his book about the Lakers' last season with Shaq) to say that Kobe is uncoachable. When a man with 9 championship rings says this about a player who helped him win 3 of those rings, you got to think about the validity of such a comment.
4.) Kobe is not a good teammate. He fought with Samaki Walker. He fought with Shaq. He yells and berates his teammates when they mess up. Sure he's calmed down this season, but one season does not erase 8 years worth of bad attitude.
5.) He's probe to temper tantrums as indicated by his refusal to take shots in important games when he feelings are hurt (last year's playoff with Phoenix?). Sometimes his anger lets him go on scoring binges, but what kind of player lets his emotions get such a hold of him?
I could go on and on of why someone can potentially hate Kobe. Your question is about why Kobe is hated? For the reasons I listed above (not including the rape charge), it's not hard to see why not.

Oh, so since he is a good ball player we should just forget about the rape? Hey Rae Carruth was a pretty good receiver. Who cares that he had his wife murdered.
Athletes performance on the field should NEVER overshadow the things (good and bad) they do off the field.

Obviously you've never been raped. Be glad of that. He raped a girl and got away with it. That's why I don't like him.
