When my tree started growing back leaves this year it also sprouted giant green spotted bulbs. They are very soft and the size of a golf ball. Any idea what type of tree this is?

What you have there is the nest of a beneficial parasitic wasp. (Beneficial insects feed on insects that hurt humans and/or human crops.) If you tease apart the fuzzy stuff, you will find little nodules inside. Cut one open and you will find a little developing parasitic wasp larva. Cool, eh?

um....it sounds like it could be a sweetgum tree....if it has starshaped leaf's. or maybe a sycamore if its bark frequently falls off.
