I have 2 more years of high school. I have been taking Astronomy this semester, at a community college with a "B" grade average. I've checked 3 college courses dealing with Journalism and 2 on Screenwriting. Got the text books from their library on each of the courses (2 at a time) and discovered I can learn college level studies. A professor stated if I can do it, I should take the courses with approval of the high school instructors to get letters of recommendation from them. What do you suggest? High school isn't that necessary for me. For others, yes. After all, its what you can produce in those fields, not what you learn outside those fields, like courses having nothing to do with what I want in college.

To enter a community college, a person DOES NOT need a HS diploma or a GED. I checked on it.

I left high school at the beginning of my senior year to start college early, and it's the best thing I've done thus far in life. If you have the ability to do work on a higher level, and you won't suffer repercussions from not obtaining a traditional high school diploma, then why waste your time?

Don't listen to the people who are spouting off indoctrinated bull about high school being necessary for "well-roundedness" or being "not too difficult to complete". Of course it's not difficult. My high school guidance counselors were of no use to me when I wanted to leave; I'm not sure if they didn't want to lose someone with a good GPA, or if they simply couldn't think objectively. Talk to professors or college counselors; asking someone who works at your high school for advice is like asking a car salesman whether or not you should purchase a new car.

It sounds like you are doing exactly what you should be doing. Staying in high school. Talk with your counselors, both at the high school and college levels, about which courses could get you credit at both levels. If you have AP courses, that would help and Running Start, a program that gives you college credits while you're still in high school, are good options.

No matter what, stay in school. High school is a good opportunity, and not many colleges will let you in if you don't have a high school degree or have proof you are attending school SOMEwhere.

Just continue with High school and take some evening classes at the community college. Then go to a University and have a great time taking fewer classes. Education is not a race.

I'd advise you to complete your high school education as well. Not many people who don't graduate high school, even if they do get their GED, look back on it without regrets. HIgh school is not that hard. That's great that you're able to take some college classes now, but go ahead and finish high school in addition. You won't regret it, believe me.

You should stay in High School. A high school education contributes to being a well-rounded individual. However, that doesn't mean you can't proceed on with a college education while in High School. As you have already discovered, your community college will allow you to take courses. You should check with your high school counselor to see if they have a dual enrollment program. In a dual enrollment program, you take some college courses and get credit for both high school and college.

Good luck

even if you believe you can handle the courses, to enter even a community college you must either have hs diploma or ged. so maybe that will help you decide.

Stay in high school. If your career doesn't work out (don't say it won't, it could) it will hurt you in the end. Even McDonalds doesn't hire High School Drop-outs! And yes, you would be a Drop-Out.
