netgear 108mbps usb adapter?

my adapter is supposed to get 108mbps I only get 54mbps I have a super G ROUTER WHY im not getting 108mbps Help!

advertised bandwidth speeds are never achievable in the real world when it comes to high speed network equipment. you are getting the best rate out of your 108 mbps equipment in "your" operating environment. when attenuation of the radio signal is degrading the sending unit will drop down to the highest data rate that can sustain traffic between the wireless radio and normally the strongest receiver.

Unless you use the same make of router and card the turbo or boost features do not work, they are non-standard. Also these speeds only work at relatively short range, they drop back to 54 M and then 24 M as the range increases, finishing at 11 M just before you lose signal totally.

You have 2 components with different speed standards. The USB adapter is using 802.11n (rated at 108Mb/s) and the router is using 802.11g (rated at 54 Mb/s). The USB adapter is compatible with the lower speed but the router cannot go any faster. Only way to fix is to have a 802.11n rated router :(

The 108Mb/s speeds are done by using proprietary equipment with each other.It sounds like you are using the belkin pre-n usb adapter, so in order for you to get the 108Mb/s network speed you would have to be using a belkin pre-n wireless router also.

When you use your pre-n usb adapter with any other 802.11g router you will only get a 54Mb/s connection.
