Introduction
If you don't want to use the Database wizard, you can create your own database from scratch. These instructions work for Access 97.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Steps
1Step OneOpen Microsoft Access. From the File menu, click New, then Blank Database. Click OK.
2Step TwoA window appears, asking you to name and save your database. Move through the folders on your hard disk until you find the location you want, then type a name. Click Create. Your new database window appears.
3Step ThreeCreate the objects that will make up your database. These objects may include tables, forms, queries, macros, or materials, such as charts, that can be linked to from another file.
Tips & Warnings
Databases can be very complex, especially if they are "relational" (that is, if you use multiple tables that share information with each other). It's a good idea to design your database with paper and pencil, sketching out the tables and fields, before creating it in Access.
Avoid entering duplicate fields or records in more than one table. A relationship between tables that use duplicate information can be established through use of an identifier called a primary key, but the actual record should be entered only once.

MS Access is one of Microsoft's most powerful programs with huge capabilities. It is also one of the most difficult to master. I can't believe you were asked to setup a project in an Access database with no prior instruction.

You can go to www.amazon.com and search for books, used and new, or seek online help. The link below will take you to some tutorials.

There's also a great book you can buy called "Microsoft Access Step By Step," where is the version number you want.

It's made my Microsoft Press and it takes you from start to finish on how to use Access. It's very graphical and includes a CD with all samples.

You can find it at your local bookstore on online at Amazon.com for about $40.

Your best bet is to use the Wizard function, it will ask you a series of questions and then create the database for you. You can then change the layout to whatever you want. This is not the easiest program to use, or play around with, it's a very complex thing.

Access already has lots of built-in tutorials, look under HELP, theres no way someone here could step-by-step guide you, its not as simple as one would imagine.
