A rod is a unit of length, equal to 11 cubits, 5.0292 metres or 16.5 feet.
16.5ft / 5280ft = 0.003125

A rod is defined as 16.5 feet. This unit is the fundamental unit that defines the acre, with one acre equal to 160 square rods. One rod would be 16.5/5280 miles, but I don't have a calculator with me. This would be 320 rods to the mile, therefore 640 acres to the square mile, exactly. I hope this helps.

Hi,
In old English (Imperial) measurements a Rod, Pole or Perch is equivalent to one tenth of a furlung i.e. 22 yards (also the length of a cricket pitch between the wickets).

Hence, as a part of a mile (1760 yards) it will be 1/80th of a mile.

Hope that helps,

1 mile = 320 rods.

Thus:
1 rod = 1/320 miles = 0.003125 miles
