I was just curious because I own one and want to do it but it says to sit across from someone but my friend says you can do it alone. My sister is way to young to sit still let alone be quiet. And the whole candle thing, I have just heard it works only with candle light and then I have heard different.

A typical session with the board has two or more people touching the planchette with at least one hand each, so that no single person need apply much force in order for the group as a whole to cause it to move. Each person experiences the illusion that the planchette moves under its own power.
