GB is the amount of space on the IPOD. It makes a difference in how much music it can hold. 1GB will hold about a thousand songs. 4GB holds about 4000. I personally like the 2GB. I think that is plenty and it is the most reasonably priced. The Nano's are great! She will love it!

I'd suggest a 2GB, considering that will take a lot of music to fill up. Most people that use 8GB or more have songs on their iPod that they no longer listen to, so I own a 4GB but I actively delete old songs that I don't listen to anymore to save space.
The guy above me said that iPod nano's getting old. I have my iPod mini from 3 years ago and it works perfectly, so don't worry about a Nano being old because it's the most recent iPod and with proper care it will last a few years.

1 GB is 500 songs
4 GB is 1000 songs
8 GB is 2000 songs
these are the facts directly from apple. I have a 4 GB and it does hold 1000 songs. the guy that said 4 GB is about 4000 songs is wromg. I would go with the 4 GB b/c in my opinion 1 GB is not enough space and 8 GB is too expensive for me. This is commpletly up to you, of course.

GB stands for Gigabyte. Gigabytes refer to the amount of memory (songs and other media) the IPOD can hold. The best IPOD Nano is of course the one with the largest amount of Memory. If you know that your daughter will most likely place a bunch of songs onto her IPOD Nano, it would be a good idea to get one with more memory. If she is one who will not put that many on there, you should go with one with less memory. The larger they are, however, means the more they will cost. It would be best to choose according to your budget, and your daughter's needs.

You should take a look at the Sandisk Sansa e260. The Sansa has a few things to offer the Nano doesn't:
My daughter has an iPod, while I have the Sansa and like it more. It will play video, has a FM radio, records radio and your voice, and has an micro SD slot for more memory. You don't need to run iTunes or anything for that matter.

GB refers to the amount of memory that is has. The more GB the more songs, pictures or whatever... If she's into being cool, then the bigger the better.
You shuld be able to find several used ones on ebay. If you are afraid of ebay, and plan on buying one retail, then go to an Apple store or buy online at Apple, then you could get free engraving on the back.

A gig( or gigabyte) is the amount of memory it will be able to hold. Example: 1 GB would would have 1,000,000 bytes of memory, 2 would have 2,000,000 and 4 would have 4,000,000. THe 4 GB would be better, but also more expensive.

Gigabytes, or how much storage space is available. 1 or 2 GBs is rather small, I would go for the 4 GB especially if your daughter is an avid listener of music.

GB = gigabyte -- a measure of storage space. The higher the number, the more storage = higher price.
Sounds like you know as much about this as I do. Better talk to someone you trust or you will end up with a state-of-the-art ipod. Just found this link. It might help you make a selection.
