I am sooo friggin' sick of hearing questions like, "So, what part of New Orleans are you from?" every time I mention that I lost everything in Katrina. How come no one remembers that New Orleans received their flooding AFTER Katrina razed Mississippi's Gulf Coast and other parts of Louisiana (besides New Orleans), and tore up parts of Alabama, too? Hey, at least New Orleans had roofs to sit on...most folks in Mississippi didn't even have roofs left!

The main reason no one remembers that Mississippi was also struck by Katrina, is the media hype surrounding the devastation in New Orleans.
Rather than sitting back waiting for the federal government to step in and clean up, the residents of Mississippi rolled up their sleeves and went to work to clean up the mess. However, the mainstream media is so locked into one sided reporting that I am ashamed to admit that I work for a local newspaper.

I even have kinfolk that lives interior of a few blocks of the Gulf in Gulfport MS. MS certainly took the worst portion of the hurricane; generally the N.E. reducing fringe of the hurricane surge. the excuses that the MS coast has rebounded speedier are: a million) The MS Gulf coast is populated by using persons that are, as an entire, lots greater rich than the denizens of N.O. even as MS as a state has a poverty situation, the undesirable are actually not centred in sea coast communities for obtrusive motives. rich anybody is lots greater probably to have sufficient insurance and characteristic the supplies to regroup greater directly. 2) the 2nd portion of the equation is political. The Gov. of MS is Haley Barbour, former head of the RNC. besides, Trent Lott is interior the Senate management. The impression of their impression should not be underestimated. besides, recriminations against la play a place because of the fact the relationship between Nagin, Blanco, & Landrieu and the Repubs became especially poisonous following Katrina. i think that the Bush administration and the former Repub-controlled Congress have accomplished eveything they are in a position to to grant la their comeuppance.

Because the news media concentrated on New Orleans, they did very little reportage on other parts of the country; too rural I guess.
