The closet in the nursery has two sliding doors. How do I baby proof them. And should I put drawer locks on the dresser drawers so he can't open them and climb them. How do I baby proof the litter box?

I have a 7 month old who is about to start crawling. What baby proofing tips can you give me.

Thanks.

Take the closet doors off and hang a curtain up there and anchor the dressor to the wall they sell them everywhere very inexpensive. As far as the litter box try on top of the dryer or somewhere out of reach. Good luck

Baby Proofing Sliding Closet Doors

We put the litter box in the laundry room, and have a gate in the doorway (if you shut the door, the cat can't get in either!).

I wouldn't put locks on the dresser drawers just yet, unless he plays in there as well. Save yourself that trouble until later, you may find it's never an issue.

If you are worried about him climbing, you should make sure all the shelves and tall furniture are secured to the wall so they can't fall forward.

I've never seen any kind of device for baby-proofing closet doors, but you could try putting a pin through them so they won't slide. Or, take them down completely and put a curtain up instead.

One thing I like is hiding the cords to the computer. We have two desks, and one of them has all the cords hidden behind a big sheet of plywood that's attached to the back legs of the desk. The other we have a power-strip lock, which covers all the plugs.

They say that the best way to find out what you need to do is to crawl around and see what is at your baby's eye level. You see stuff then that you normally won't see.

You can put a dowel or a broken broom/mop handle in the track of the sliding doors. It may be a good idea to put the locks on the dresser, and also secure it to the wall if you suspect the baby will ever climb it. You may consider getting a covered litter box and turn the opening toward the wall, or as the others said, put it up. Usually putting it in another room isn't a good idea because cats often consider that spot to be the proper toilet area and will simply go where the box was. Putting it up or under something big enough for the cat to get to the litter would be fine.
Just think, another few months and the baby will advance to pulling its self up, toddling, and then walking, and you'll be looking for advise on how to corral the kid. *smile*

The only one I have a suggestion for is the litter box. Since the baby will only be crawling at that point, all you need is to keep the litter box in, say the bathroom, and keep the door shut. After they start walking get the doorknob covers.
I didn't have a problem with my son getting in to anything in his room at that age, because he wasn't in there alone. Once he starts opening drawers and such, the best ones to babyproof are ones in the kitchen.

My daughter can't get our sliding door into the laundry room open and she's 13 months and walking. You just have to pull it all the way shut. You may not need to use drawer locks yet, but around a year, it's worth looking into. Again, my daughter only crawls up the drawers if they're open, she can't open them herself just yet. The litterbox needs to be in a room he can't get to. You may need to teach the cat to "ask" to go - because there's no other way to get it into the room if you close the door all the time.

we also had sliding doors in our house we got broom handels amd placed them along the tracks of each door(make sure they are a tight fit) so thay our kids could not open the doors. As for the draws yes it is a good idea to lock them better to be safe than sorry.

Maybe it could be as easy as putting a stick on tracking to prevent it from being open unless you remove it. Craft stores have perfect round wooden stick things that could be cut to the right size. I am sure they make something maybe google it.! good luck!

Get a walker stroller and it will be hard to get into most everything. re:CB
