I prefer respect through admiration.

Respect through fear isn't respect. It's fear. Respect through love is the only type of respect there is. Respect requires a level of comradery that fear simply doesn't allow. If someone is in fear, it's a very negative state to vibrate within. They'll be tense, on edge, jittery, quick to anger. They sense lack, they sense threat. It's simply a terrible way to live and effects one's health in a like manner. It's only what you give away that you get in return. If you give someone a smile, you'll get one back at some point in time. Give money, and strangely people will feel inclined to give to you at some point. Give people much respect, and they'll respect you. If you do something great or spectacular, people will acknowledge that accomplishment. And that's all respect really is. It's saying I acknowledge you as a worthy or superb individual. You can't really get that from fear in any real sense to my mind. Thus naturally my response will be Respect through Love.

I prefer love... but I recognize that Machiavelli was right - fear is a better motivator of men. If you live in a world where respect gets you places, then its good to show some teeth rather than puckering the lips.

neither. respect based on fear is not respect; it is fear. Same for love. Respect is something that is earned by your deeds, actions, and words - not by how you make others feel about you.

i would rather have respect through love and have people control themselves through fear of what damage they would do to the planet through ill thought out decisions
