I use a free ftp program called Smart ftp.
You can download it from: http://www.smartftp.com/download/
Before you start you will need your ftp address and password from your webhost.
Your ftp address usually looks like: ftp.yourwebsitename.com but this and your password is supplied to you by your hosting co.
Now open your ftp program and input your ftp address and password.
A split screen will open with your website files on one side and your computer desktop on the other.
Locate your public_html folder from your website and click on it to open it.
Now this is where you will upload your homepage and subsequent pages/files for your website.
Your homepage is always called index.html. Subsequent pages can be called whatever you like with a .html extension (eg. page2.html, links.html etc.)
Now to upload all you do is drag the file across from your desktop to your website.
For the first time you will drag your homepage file called index.html from your desktop or wherever it is located on your computer and place it into the public_html folder of your website.

Well, Most of the time the site will provide a FTP program. But if it doesn't you can use comand prompt or download a FTP program. Username and password for the site is usually what you use to log in as.

Once you connect to your site with the FTP program you upload your files. Besure to name the main page index.html so that the webserver knows it's the first page to load. Note* some servers have a placeholder index.html, you may have to delete this before you upload your index.html.
