Those who we want to live with are our friends. This is the most plausible answer to your question because, philosophically speaking, philosophers have a heightened sense of solitude v. multitude, and so also have acute understanding of the value of friendship, which is the middle ground between two impractical extremes.

Friendship is an ethical contruct of your making. You make the rules of friendship, just as others do. In other words - you pick your friends and they pick you.
