Tubby left Kentucky because he was tired of the unrealistic expectations of the fans and alumni there. Minnesota fans will love him if he can reach the level where Kentucky was while he was coach. Kentucky fans despised him for being at that level; they want Final Fours, not mere NCAA appearances. I'm guessing he can stay at Minnesota until he retires, unless he has a scandal (and Minnesota knows about scandals...). Making good money with low fan expectations is much less pressure than making great money with titanic expectations.

Tubby Smith left the Kentucky Wildcats, and is currently now coaching men's basketball at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was greeted with a very, very warm welcome, and I hope he will bring to Minnesota some of the greatness he brought the Wildcats, lord knows we need it!

He left because he could not keep the Wildcats at the level that people expect. Remember UK has more SEC championships than the rest of the teams in the SEC combined.

Tubby was run off by UK fans disguntled over his team's failure to return to the Final Four is almost ten years. They *say* they're upset with his subpar recruiting efforts. But Kentuckians have dark hearts when it comes to Tubby.
