There is no such thing as 'trojan horse virus'. There are trojans and they are all different. You need to know which one you have before you can get rid of it. You will probably need several programs to get rid of it. Don't get Norton or McAfee anti-virus or any anit-virus software for that matter because they cannot remove trojans.
Trojans are fake programs that tell you your computer is corrupt or has been corrupted in some way and then redirect you to a website where they try to force you to buy a product to fix your computer.
The first thing you need to to do is download HijackThis and run a scan to identify the process that has taken over your computer.

It depends on what type of virus/trojan it is.
You'll need to scan your machine with any of the free online scanners or free donloadable anti virus programs. Once you do that you'll know which virus and with any luck be able to automatically remove it.
If not removed automatically, you'll need to go to the symantec website, look up the virus name and then find the removal tool on the page.
Good luck with it.

I would suggest AOL Active Virus Shield. Despite the AOL name, this program actually runs on solid technology: Kaspersky Anti-Virus. If you don't know, Kaspersky is the best personal antivirus solution on the market. Active Virus Shield is sort of a free version of Kaspersky with AOL branding and it detects over 95% of known viruses (that is excellent.. in comparison Norton and McAfee are in the low 80%). By the way, this is free for everyone, not just AOL users:

The only surefire way to remove a Trojan is to reinstall the Operating System. You can run anti-virus programs but there is no guarantee that it will remove the trojan.

Unless you have valuable/irreplaceable items on your hard drive you could always reformat it or get a new one. I had to replace mine when a virus just would not be removed.
Edit: I'm sorry to disagree with the answer above mine, but please think carefully before allowing any online scan on your computer. You don't know what you might end up with!
