The proper solution should consist of 1 part of sugar and 4 parts of water. Honey or juice may be dangerous for these creatures; color supplements are toxic.

When preparing a hummingbird mixture, use 2 cups of water and 1 cup of sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil stirring the entire time. Take the mixture off the heat and allow it to cool overnight. Don't put any food coloring in it as the birds could be harmed. Use regular table sugar and not honey. Your hummers will be very happy.

Don't use processed white sugars to feed humming birds. It's bad for them.
Natural honey is much better if you can't buy the hummingbird food.
dissolve 1/2 cup organic pure honey and 1/4 teaspoon of uniodized salt in 2 cups of distilled water.

one part sugar to 4parts of water
in other words 1/4 cup sugar to one cup of water
make sure to boil sugar in water to disolve it completely and make sure it is completely cool before hanging it in the yard
