I think it's great. He's s intelligent and capable so why not. But I still feel bad for the next president, because the war is a difficult situation for anyone to have to take on.

Why do you care if the President is black, white, or green?

Yes, I am turning the question around on you, but if people stop thinking in terms of color then we will all be happier and a situation where he have a black, Hispanic, oriental, or whatever President won't be a problem that is greater than the issues at hand.

For the candidate I don't know him very well, he doesn't have a lot of experience in government, but he is also not tainted and seems to be eager to do the job.

If we do elect a black person as President or for that matter a woman then we will have passed that hurdle and put the idea of having someone like that in office behind us and it will become a non issue.

You aren't asking if we should be worried about someone as old as John McCain becoming President because Ronald Regan put that ghost to death. You aren't worried about Mit Romney becoming President and he is a Mormon. John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic President and he didn't turn the US over to the Pope as some people feared. He put that ghost to death as well.

When I vote for a President I will do so on the basis of his or her performance, experience and what kind of job I think they will do. I won't worry about race, creed, or religion. If more Americans thought this way then you wouldn't have had to ask this question, in fact you would have sounded like an idiot just for asking this question.

But, you are NOT an idiot; this is a real issue and an important one. Your question points out that we need to grow up and put issues of race behind us. Until we do the problems that plague our society do to racial conflicts will continue. Based on that I can say it is high time to elect a black President, and an even better choice would be Condie Rice. She is both black and a woman.

I honestly do not care about color and most people agree. There is a widely quoted poll in which a solid majority of people said that they had no problem voting for a black person or a women for president. Oddly enough only a little over 50% of people would vote for Mormon and only 44% for an atheist.
As far as Obama in particular, I am a little unsure mainly due to his lack of experience. Being a rock star of a politician is not qualification although William Henry Harrison, Dwight Eisenhower and James Polk were generals with even less experiance.

The same way I feel about the potential to have the first woman president. If they can do the job and have the countries best interests at heart...more power to 'em. If not, I don't care if they're the first president made entirely of Oreos. I don't want them in office.

I think its pretty f'n cool. I love Obama! He is a great man.
The only thing that I trip on is if (some) black people take it to the head and start acting a fool. * I do not mean that in a racist way!*

I do not care about the color of the skin or the gender of the candidate...all I care about are qualifications and the issues. does it matter so much to you about race and gender?

Isn't it bad enough Americans are divided on issues...does this have to be about prejudice as well?

Not much, I don't base my vote on the race or gender of the person running for office.
