She likes formula fine, but breast feeding becomes fussy and doesn't take to it as well as the bottle. She's breast fed from beginning and supplented occassionally with formula and also when this weekend when grandma had baby overnight.

Baby is not gassy and can't figure out if it's a mom-daughter missed signals? Any advice?

My baby did the same thing. It was because the flow of the breast was not as much as the bottle. She's very hungry and wants to eat fast. Keep insisting, the flow will increase and she'll be a happy baby. Good luck :)

You should not give the baby a bottle until she is very comfortable with breastfeeding. Now, she is having "nipple confusion" (that's an actual term.) Why does grandma have baby overnight? I wouldn't let my baby be anywhere overnight except with me, and she's 20 months old.

Breastfeeding and having a baby take commitment and consistency is key.

Bottle feeding is instant gratification. Just the nipple in the mouth and she will taste the formula.
Breast feeding the baby has to suck for a few moments to get the taste of milk in her mouth. She is fussing because she is hungry and impatient.
As long as she is having wet diapers and seems satiated after the feeding I wouldn't get too stressed.

My baby does the same. He is almost 8 months now. I still breastfeed him only when he is half asleep. If not he is also fussing around and does not want to take the breast. That's the only advise I can give you. At least they sleep often at that age, everytime she is almost asleep just give her the breast.
Good luck!

then You grandma should stop trying. the reason there is a problem is that the bottle formula come out of the bottle faster. use a smaller hold in the nipple.
