Great question. I actually think the so called war on drugs is a total waste of time, money, and energy. My opinion is that we should legalize drugs. People shiver when I say that and cry, "Oh no. I don't want junkie doctors caring for me or junkie drivers on the streets." How ignorant. Legalizing drugs doesn't mean that we would have to force employers to hire addicts, legalize DUI, etc... SHEESH! It would cost less money to set up clinics where addicts could go for a designated number of "hits" than it costs to fund this ridiculous war on drugs. Likewise, we could reduce the spread of disease via dirty needles by providing addicts with as many clean needles as they need. And think of the extra space in the jails and prisons where REAL criminals could be housed. And please, don't even get me started on the claim that so much crime is the result of selling/using drugs. If someone kills someone over a pair of shoes, should we force everyone to walk around barefoot? Much of the resulting crime (murder, burglary, theft, etc...) is due to drugs being illegal in the first place.

This situation would fall under 'non-therapeutic prescribing of medication' and is considered malpractice. Contact the State Board of Medical Examiners and file a complaint. You will need solid proof that you informed him of the drug abuse and overdoses and that he continued to prescribe the medications, I would recommend sending a registered letter. The Police and AMA will do nothing about this so don't bother.

A drug to cure a drug habit? Or drugs for other issues? If its drugs to cure a drug habit, then no. That would just cause a dependency on another drug. But for other issues yes.
