Why are Gas prices not causing protests in the street?

Gas was about $1.25 per gallon when Bush took the Presidentail reins in his first term.

Last week, Big Oil's first-quarter profit reports came rolling in with more bad news for consumers. On April 26, Exxon/Mobil reported that even though it produced less product than last year, it earned profits of 10 percent on unusually high refinery margins (source: MarketWatch) and that the margins were so high that the company "overcame lower crude oil and natural gas prices" (source: Associated Press).

Gas has exceeded $3.50 per gallon in San Diego, don't worry your pricing will soon catch up to this number.


Record prices and record profits for the Oil companies. Why are we sitting on our butts and not protesting in the streets untill we force the government to take action and curb these abuses?

you will hear people say that Gas prices are lower if you adjust for inflation than they were in the 70's.. that is true however if you use that exact same inflation index you will see that the median income has dropped an equivalent amount , just about.

for them that will say that we have the cheapest gas in the world , .. that again looks true if you compare it to socialized countries, but of course they have free health care, education and much better living standards, also gas is about .45 a gallon in much of the Mid east.

For those of you ready to give up gas altogether, that is not a solution because not everyone can ride a bike to work or use mass trans...

Butch, you clearly don't know your founding fathers belief system. These programs have existed for 60 years, magically when a republican was in office too. But your mind is made up so, word up! Obama doesn't secrete oil, petroleum at least. Oil companys Jack up the price 300% and since I'm sure your against obama's transit plans, your at the mercy of OPEC, whom Obama is speaking out against now.

Because most Americans are too selfish to give up anything that they think they need. It's just like the tickets to sporting events. The athletes and owners make outrageous amounts of money and people are willing to pay any price for tickets just to watch a "game". Same with gas.
Americans aren't disciplined enough to contain cost.

A more effective way to protest the price of gas is to join the May 15th gas out where no one buys gas that day.

Democrats stopped drilling in Alaska, Off Shore, and on Oil Rich Government Lands.
Democrats wanted High Gas Prices.

You can protest by not buying gas anymore. Frankly I still need it. Supply and demand, and the speculators on Wall Street are the ones that have the largest bearing on prices, oil is a commodity.....talk to them.

I think you'll see a trend towards more efficient vehicles before you see gas riots. Many people are still driving SUVs, for instance, obviously, the price of gas isn't an issue if you're willing to blow through so much of it.

They can do a little more than what they are but you have to remember this is the stock market and it's international. Our state govenor here in Wisconsin won't even cut some off the gas tax!
