Well, it all depends on the perspective I think. The cutter think's it's somewhat normal while others think it's horrible and he or she should stop.
Here's an example:
Our whole 8th grade (consisted of 12 people) went to Galveston, TX for a science field trip. We went on a boat ride with a bunch of home-schooled kids. My friends and I were on the second deck of the tiny boat, and there was a kid cutting her wrist! And a guy was next to her staring(not in a bad way)! And parents were next to her, but I don't think they noticed. How? I have no idea.

No it's not normal, if we can define normal,but a lot of people self harm and they claim it makes them feel better.
It can be dangerous and help is out there for anyone wanting it.
There are specialist people who help to find the cause of anyone wanting to self harm,it can stem from trauma in childhood to stress,and help to get the problem under control.

Some people do it as a release of anger. I used to do it when I was younger when I was really depressed and went through some certain things but I wouldn't even do it again. Its bad
