There are only what, 155 million females in the US.

Of them, maybe 1/3 are sexually active (i.e., not children, not aged, and honestly, frequently dating).

So you're down to about 50 million for your pool of people who might ever need an abortion.

Most are done in the 1st trimester - which relative to later trimesters is a good thing. But that's still a few months - during which you're not creating a 'need' for another abortion.

Most people do use birth control and if you're using it properly it's 90-95% effective. I know, I know, some reports say 70%, but assuming you can put a condom on correctly or actually stay on the pill, it's more like 90-95%.

Then there is the morning after pill - or pills - - you can take 3-4 birth control pills the day after and if you're pregnant, in all likelihood you probably soon won't be.

And there are 1 million per year.

That probably means that at least 1/3 are casual - i.e., a form of birth control.

Are you OK with that?

Note, I'm against overturning Roe v Wade. I think parental notification is a good idea and that the Left forced the S. Ct's hand on partial birth abortions by using 'mother's health' to include 'emotional health' and basically eroding the limit.

Nubilin - "fortunately, I use several methods of birth control and this will likely never happen" - - that's my point - - does it bother you that there are millions of people who are as sexually active as you are, don't use birth control, and just say to themselves, "well, if I get pregnant I'll get an abortion" - - because by the numbers it's almost certain that that's the case.

Look - it's a simple question. I'm not asking for you to repeat that you're pro-choice. All I'm asking is does it bother you that just based on a quick review of the numbers, in all likelihood about 1/3 of the abortions are casual - used as birth control by people having their 4th or 5th procedure.

You don't have to think the government should or can do anything about it, it's just a question - does it bother you?

It's like asking someone who opposes welfare, does poverty bother you - yes, it bothers me but that doesn't give me the right to take someone's money and give it to someone else. But of course I feel bad for poor people, even those who are poor through their own sloth.

I am pro-choice.. I have always stated that there are instances where abortion should be an option for the female involved.. ( I don't condone abortion as a form of birth control... in my mind,, it is simply wrong).. Having said that.. I will also have to say that, It is much better to abort while in the womb at weeks old (in the first trimester) rather than subject children to abuse or neglect.... In an ideal world, these things wouldn't happen.. However that ideal world does not exist.. Children are killed, abused, and abandoned everyday on this planet.. In a 1998 report.. Russia had 100,000 abandoned children per year... Now.. lets think about this in logical terms... These children..(most of them) will live out their lives in these institutions and many will die in these institutions... neglected and underfed.. When and if they become of age to actually leave these places.. they most surely will wind up on the street,, abusing drugs and prostituting themselves for survival.. So don't tell me.. that abortion should not exist...

This is a very common conservative misconception that "pro-choice" means the same as "pro-abortion" as if abortion is some kind of great idea liberals just can't get enough of.
Personally I don't believe it should be used as birth control, so the direct answer to your question would be no (but I can only speak for myself)
The thing is - a big part of being pro-choice is believing that what a woman decides to do in this situation is her personal business, not mine. I do not have control over her choice, nor do I believe that my morals should be imposed on someone else simply because I believe I'm right.
Basically, I believe that abortion comes between the woman, her values, and her faith (whatever it may be) - my own morals should not be legally imposed on someone else.
Besides - when abortion was illegal it went on anyway - just in conditions ten times worse than a clinical setting.
I believe abortion is wrong, yet I remain pro choice and I refuse to pass judgement about it. I don't believe I am in that kind of position.

Here's the thing...If I prevent these people from having abortions, then I am giving up my right to make my own decisions about a pregnancy. It's not YOUR job to tell my husband and I what we should or should not do for our family. It is not the government's job, either.

Am I pro-abortion? No. Do I advocate abortion as a means of birth control? No. But neither do I believe that a woman who made a mistake should pay for it by going to a back alley abortionist who uses an coat hanger or a knife. If you or your wife or your mother or your daughter gets pregnant and doesn't want to be but is willing to carry that child to term and either keep it or give it up for adoption, that's their business. But you cannot make that decision for me!

first it starts with the parents. if they would have taught their children in the first place about sex education instead of leaving it to the schools which still think the best way is abstinence. when its obvious that children are still going to have sex anyways. abstinence education leaves a child naive about sex.

dont get me wrong it teaches good moral but it doesnt do the job. kids should be taught abstinence in there younger years and true sex education as they turn into there teens.

it anoyes me how ignorant kids and parents are about sex in this world. it annoys me even moore that the parents are not smart to put there children on birth controll the second they turn 13 even if there not sexual active its a safe guard and it gets them in the habit so they dont screw up taking it later on.

of that 1 million i want to know how many were incest and rape victoms? have you ever gotten bored and read the adolence yahoo answers section wow!!

I'm not okay with one abortion. I don't believe most others -- on both sides of the issue -- are okay with it. But it's too late to stop abortion by legal means.

The energy and resources poured in to make abortion illegal can be used instead for convincing people to use birth control and to making carrying a fetus to term a more compelling alternative than it usually is. The problem is many anti-abortion people are also anti-birth control. They also oppose efforts to provide support for mothers who carry to term.

nicely I DO comprehend and cost your opinion, on the fact that "a million Million Abortions is purely too many" (i'm probable going to get thumbs down for this) yet, possibly you need to evaluate that the subject itself is an quite very own one. and consistent with hazard you need to consistent with hazard re-think of your point of view. i'm truthfully not telling you which you're incorrect in any way. yet what i'm asserting is, to contemplate the fact that to a pair professional-decision persons, it is an argument of (for loss of a extra perfect term) Human Rights. A cis-gendered lady has each and every acceptable to do what she needs to do, simply by fact in spite of each and every thing it is HER physique. What ever existence (or no existence) is in the womb is her duty. and that i individually have confidence that it is her decision. So, the question of a million Million Abortions consistent with 365 days, being too many? In a directly growing to be inhabitants (no count if we are speaking of a city, united states, or the international as an entire) it continues to be a count of non-public opinion and wellbeing. you won't be able to set a shrink on rights. And a girl is going to do what she needs.

I think being able to go slap down money and get an abortion is wrong unless there was a criminal act involved. If you are just loose and using it as your form of birth control, don't be loose or have kids.

My idea has always been you need some sort of Judge AND Jury of Peers to determine if you should be allowed to pay your own money for an abortion. Not free. I would have to say you would see that number cut down by 3/4's if some chick thinking it is a form of birth control would actually have to explain to a social worker judge person, and a jury of their peers as to why they got drunk and screwed.

If someone is pro-choice, why should they care that it's a form of birth control? Why should it matter?

Your question hints that you think there could be other reasons that abortion is acceptable, when it's not for birth control. Do you think so? Do you think abortion is murder? Doesn't that mean you think murder is sometimes acceptable as long as it's not for birth control?

I don't like abortion, but I'm not in favor of making it illegal.

As in anything, it gets abused and I'm sure it has been used for birth control. That is between the woman and her conscience. It's not for me to say if that is right or wrong.

We all live in class houses and shouldn't throw stones.

If abortion were made illegal, the repurcussions would be worse. Women would die from illegal abortions and I definately am not in favor of that.

I saw a great baby's tee shirt the other day, it read:

"Now That I'm Here, I'm Pro-Choice"

I wonder how many pro-choicers would be here today if abortions were given away like candy 50 years ago?

Everyone like to espouse “No one should be able to tell me what I should do with my own body.”

Sounds good, right.

You are taking that right away from your own unborn fetus. You are telling her or him that YOU hold the power of life or death over them and no one else. That make YOU God, wow what power!

The arguments of unwanted and unloved babies is also silly. Most abortions are performed because of convenience, not because of financial hardships and not because the mother doesn’t have enough love to give. On the contrary, many poor people WANT more babies because they get rewarded by the welfare system with each new child being born.

Abortions should be available for children conceived through incest or rape but not because the rubber was broken by the 5th football player or a wild drunken fling.
