Maybe they should be the greeter at Wal-mart with a blue vest that says, "Welcome to the Wal-Mart where I shoplifted."
with a Yellow Rollback Smiley on the back that says, "I thought 'Always low prices' meant to use the five finger discount."
"Steal here and replace an old fart saying,
Hello, How can I help you?"
It's interesting that a judge can use public humiliation in lieu of a jail sentence, but try to do that in public schools with students who do wrong, and you'll be sued by the parents.
Imagine if a student who cheated on a test had to wear a sign that said "I cheated on Ms. Smith's algebra exam" for a week. Or..."I got caught putting foul language up on the bathroom walls." Some people have no shame, so I'm not sure that attempts at public humiliation would be a deterrant, but why not try.
There must be consequences for misbehavior, that hits the offender where it hurts, and then there will be a decrease in crime.
I'm all for public stonings for convincted beyond the shadow of a doubt serial killers, rapists, child molesters, etc. Why not use the middle eastern version of chopping off hands that steal. Now there's a deterrant...Always!

Considering Wal-Mart was the easiest to rip off, ShopKo one of the hardest ones they should of took measures a long time ago to stop making it so easy! I stood there one night watching this young guy pull off a scam with a computer and the girl at the return desk never even questioned him!!! I think the theif deserves it but I think the store needs to step up to.

How big is the sign for wally mart? Any thief should wear the sign. Humiliation cured a lot of crime before big money and lots of new prisons come on the scene.

Every two weeks I look at my paycheck - You know the part the says deductions and other taxes
Yep and then I look at the $9.95 monthly charge from the bank for the privilege of having an account with them
Then I look at the cost of my cigarettes and know 2/3 of the total price went to the government.
As I look at the gas prices at 1.07 a litre - I think to myself the cost of a barrel is 70 dollars at 158 litres per barrel that works out to 44 cents a frigging litre plus 2 % for the profit for the oil company (billion dollar quarter this year ) and 16 % on top of that to refine it
Now I am up to 60 cents Canadian for one litre
The rest of that 1.07 goes to the government .
And you want to me to be punitive and resentful or even angry at a guy who stole something from the worlds biggest dollar store that has has put more mom and pop business's under ?
I think he should wear a shirt that says I am a THIEF
If ever last banker Member of Parliament and Member of Provincial Parliament wears one to

I love it. These people make prices higher for everyone. Shoplifting is not a victimless crime. We are all victims. Do you think Walmart is going to eat the loss...no way. You and I pay for it, and I think shoplifters should do a few weekends in jail.

I have a better idea. Let's tattoo the word thief in big black bold letters across the forehead of all thieves.

I think it is okay since they had a choice. They could have taken the 60 days sentence and they prefered the sign, so it was really up to them.

personaly, I think its demoralizing and rude, but when people steal they are going to face a consequence. I don't think that anyone who would steel from wal mart would learn a lesson that way. They should have to do community service, and write a 1000 or so letter essay appoligy!
