In a linear equation, the y intercept is where x is zero.
For example
The equation
y = 128x + 1005
The y intercept is where x = 0
in this case y = 1005
The slope-intercept equation
y = mx + b
the y intercept is b, on a graph you will see it as the line crossing the y Axis at y = 1005.

it shows where the line passes through the Y axis. if you dont know what the y intercept is, then you cant graph a line. in an equation that is in slope intercept form,
y=mx+b
b stands for the y intercept, m stands for slope, and x and y stand for their respective coordinates on a coordinate plane.
