Well I seem to be swayed toward a 5 gallon Tank with a suitable heater and weak sponge filter for my one male Betta Fish...

I mean atleast 5 gallons if 2.5 is the minimum for 1 male Betta...

Can I put female betta fish with him without them mating?

Annything Else I can do t make him happy?

Any good filter-tank-heater combos you can think of?

Sky is the limit up to 80$ anyway....

The problem with putting a male and female together long term is not them mating, it's the fact that the male will want to mate when the female won't and he will eventually kill her. A 5 gallon would be even better for your betta, especially if you want tank mates. I have no personal preference as to brands, just whatever is on the best deal when I want one.

I have a 10 gallon with a smal #1 filter system and a 6" submersable heater which is a home to 5 female bettas who are getting along perfectly. At first there was some fin nipping but now they are established. And females are just as beatiful.

The only reason Male Bettas don't kill the female, is if they are soon going to mate. If the female isn't in mating condition, he will kill her.

You could put an Otocinclus in there, to clean algae.

Which will total up to, 5 inches.

This would be a good filter for that size tank.

Easy to use and adjustable.
And for a heater.

You should be able to get a new 5 gal. bare tank for about $10.00-$15.00.

This KIT is good and has everything you need.
