RE:
I just recently used a fleet enema...?
I've had constipation for quite some time, and decided an enema would be my best bet. I used it as the directions said, and sort of expected to have explosive bowel movements, but I only went a little.
Will it stimulate later BMs or was it supposed to work immediately? Personal experience? I...

The small volume Fleet enemas from the drugstore are not very effective at really cleaning you out and are not very good for you. They are too small of a volume and contain sodium phosphate that draws water from your bowel and actually helps dehydrate you!!! A bottle of Magnesium Citrate helps get things going and a Fleet Bagenema Large volume enema bag is great for a clean out. A Fleet Bagenema holds 1500ml of water and is very effective. I use tap water with two teaspoons full of non iodized salt or baking soda per 1500ml to buffer it and make it absorb less. Relax and let the water flow in. It is best to start out in the knee chest position then move to your back or side whichever is more comfortable. Two or preferable three 1500ml enemas will help put you on track. Adding yogurt to replenish the flora in your bowel is a good idea and great to add to your regular diet. I every few months do a Castor oil cleansing and that helps keep me regular between times. Be sure to drink plenty of water. See sources. Good Luck and Good Health

Most enemas will be effective after the first time you use them and generally work immediately. Sometimes you may need to use another one, but no more than two at any time are recommended. There are many medical conditions that can cause constipation, such as a bowel obstruction, so if you are having increasing abdominal pain or fever, you should seek medical attention. To help alleviate constipation in the future, be sure to eat a high-fiber diet and drink plenty of water, especially in warmer weather when you tend to sweat more and drink less. Also, you may want to try a warm bath. This usually helps your muscles to relax and may help you have a BM.

I hate to tell you dude, but I'm pretty sure your impacted. If the enema didn't help there is two things you can do. Try a silver bullet (a supasatory) first, make sure to get it up there good. If that doesn't work, get a good surgical glove, put it on your hand, lub it up real good, and dig it out. Whatever you do don't wait to long because bowl impactions can kill you.

Enema's are designed to work fast. If this a constant problem, you need to see a doctor. Coliace is an OTC drug that will help but it is not instant.

Sometimes one may have a delayed reaction to it. It may take an hour two to take effect - make sure you're in dashing distance of the nearest toilet until it happens.
The most fast-acting and effective enema you can take is an ivory soap and warm water one - if you have the time and equipment. Also half-water-half-glycerine is a good formula.

it should work within a few hours. that little bit may have been very low. usually it's not explosive but can come on quickly. give it more time. if you are really uncomfortable or it doesn't work by morning, call your doc.
