I use pads cause I can't stand tampons. I usually wear black jeans, or black or dark colored sweatpants during. Best way to make it not leak is to wear fitting panties so it doesn't shift around.

The last poster mentioned tampons but I want to let you know that they too can leak if they are not changed frequently enough (about every 3 hours). It's also important to have back up on your panties such as with a pantyliner.

I always wore my regular clothes. As another poster said, when you wear the right kind of pad (like a super maxi pad or something similar) it will help reduce some of that leaking potential.

Always pads has a number of product lines to choose from to help with period issues. If you are in the U.S. click on "U.S." when you go to http://www.always.com

You can also help control some of the flow by increasing the amount of iron you take in during that time by eating things like spinach, raisins, and peanut butter (if not allergic to peanuts of course) and this can help ease some of that flow.

If the super heavy flow has been going on for a while then I would recommend that you not only talk to your mom but also talk to your dr to have them evaluate the situation to see what they think could be going on.

Don't be afraid, we all worry about leaking, and most of us have an embarrassing story about it. If you feel more comfortable wearing darker clothes, go for it. Wear a maxi with wings and keep a supply with you so you can change them as often as you need to. You can use a tampon plus a maxi pad if your period is heavy and you want extra security.

lol from someone who had the leakage happen.......wear darker colors or be extra sure you won't leak. The pads with the wings are better, ultra thins are awesome becasue they aren't as bulky. If you're really worried, wear a tampon as well as a pad and then you're fully covered. Don't sweat it, I think at oen time or another, it has probably happened to all of us, of course, not everyone would admit it....lol

I am a firm believer in Always pads with wings. When I was younger and had heavy periods, I feared leakage, so I discovered Poise Pads. They are GREAT. They are very absorbent, which is what you want. They can be found in the incontinence ailse of the grocery store or pharmacy.

whatever you do, make sure that you place your pad in the exact right spot so that when you get up, walk around, and sit down, you pad will still be in a good position to prevent leakage. try not to think about it so much. it shouldn't be a problem. i've only had a leak once and its because Aunt Flow snuck up on me.
