Having worked my way thru college in the oil production market, I can tell you that most of the oil companies fork out millions yearly for all kinds of charities and causes. BP and Shell handed over millions of dollars of generators, water, food and such after Katrina and Rita. Another oil company put their medics on crew boats and for several weeks, treated and moved to land/hospitals the sick and injured.

If you think its a scam, then you are sadly wrong. Yes, the oil companies are making record profits, but with that, and the increase in the cost of oil, goes the wages, taxes, and cost of pipe, drilling ships, crew boats and any other parts they need to find, drill, produce the oil we need.

If you take off the rose colored glasses you will see that the oil/gas prices are not set by local oil companies. They are set by the wheeler dealers who buy and sell the oil as well as OPEC. In the 70's, OPEC cut back production and we had long lines at the gas pumps.

You can sit on point fingers at all the people you want too, but the bottom line is there is no golden goose as an alternate energy source, Ethanol requires more land to grow the corn, which increases the demand, which doesnt cut polution one bit.

Take the time to research the internet and find out the facts before you throw rocks at companies. Most companies who are taxed way too much, pack up and move to some third world country. Do you want oil companies to do that??? Then what would you pay for a gallon of gas??? All the major players are hunting that black gold and if they could drill off California and Florida, you would find that we would not need all those imports because of the oil we have right here.

I get a feeling of shoot, I have to pay another 5.00 for a gallon and a half of gas, cause the last 5.00 I put in the tank is almost gone, and I don't want to give them anymore than 5.00 at a time. Warm and fuzzy, I guess if that's what feeling broke everytime a rich oil company flaunts their fleecing of American citizens for more rich people's gain is called a warm and fuzzy feeling, maybe its when I'm thinking about the pipeline in Alaska, and the polar bears over there?

or Waste Management driving their diesel burning trucks through the green lush country side. I just wish I could speak the same language as the drivers so I could tell them to pick up all the trash that missed the back of the truck when they dump the dumpsters. Oil companies contribute to both political parties.

The are not doing anything for or against us. Oil is a commodity, price is a function of supply and DEMAND. We, THE U.S. CONSUMERS, have total control over demand. Neither the President nor the oil companies force us to drive behemoth SUVs or over powered 8 cylinder vehicles. Nor do they force us to drive to convenience stores less then 2 miles away every time we need a pack of smokes or a six-pack. I know, everybody wants to blame someone else, well unless you are driving a hybrid or scooter, you have nothing to complain about when it comes to the price part of the supply and demand function.

What honestly cracks me up is all this hatred for oil companies! I honestly don't get it! On average oil companies make about 9.75%. This compared to 11% for computers, 13% for chemicals, 19% for beverages and tobaco, and then over 21% for pharmeceuticals!

Another FACT is that nearly 20% of the cost of gas is in federal, state, and local taxes! That means that for every $3.30 you pay for a gallon of gas, you pay $.66 in taxes! If the government charged a standard 7.75% sales tax like they do with most products and goods, you'd only be paying $2.86 per gallon!

Something to think about the next time you complain about oil company profits.

Um where did you see that Stephanie? I would like to know. I do however get warm and fuzzy.. I think it is the greatest thing that instead of spending money on food that you make at your job you spend it on fuel to go back and forth. Makes sense though if you look at it. We are considered fat in the US so if we have to spend our money on fuel instead of food, we will lose weight...that is my spin to make it sound as ridiculous as the people you are going to get that say how great it is the oil companies are making billions and billions.

They do an amazing job for us. Despite middle eastern turmoil, taxes, and government interference, they have kept gas prices from rising with inflation. If the government would mind its own business, we wouldn't have a gas price issue.

The keyboard that you type this stupid question on, the clothes that you're wearing, the detergent that keeps your clothes clean, the cup that holds your drink, the carpet you're feet are on, the paints, stains, and varnishes all over your house, and anything made of plastic, rubber, resin, synthetic fiber, or pigments is made from oil.

I saw a CITGO commercial today and almost choked on my lunch!

CITGO is the State Owned oil company of the Hugo run Communist Venezuela. Buying CITGO gas is akin to mailing money to terrorists.

I am so mad that any US television station would accept their advertising dollars.

Greed will be the downfall of this great land!

I have seen the commercials you speak of. They are very strange. We all looked at each other and said, "What? Is this a joke?".
