I agree that Pats are the most complete team on paper.
However, they have had lots of new players come in this season. Pretty much all their starting receivers will be new to the pats. The only thing I'd be worried about is whether they'd get adjusted in time.
The colts offense just exploded with the addition of Anthony Gonzales. With Manning throwing the ball there was nothing stopping this offense, and with Anthony there, it's just one more target for the other team to worry about. Yes, they didn't help themselves much in the defense with their draft, but they never draft defenders high. Most of their big name defenders were late rounders or free agents. I think their defense will be fine.
I say the best team will come down to be either the Colts or the Pats. That will be a good game.

There is not a more complete team as of right now than the New England Patriots. This team, with a porous receiving core and no youth at LB beat the Chargers in the playoffs and almost, almost beat the Colts in the AFC championship. With a completely retooled and majorly improved group of receivers (Moss, Washington, Welker, and Stallworth) and the best all around defensive free agent (Adalius Thomas, LB) has filled any holes that they might have had. Throw into that one of the greatest game planning coaches ever and there is no way to attack the Patriots as anything than the best team in the NFL on paper.

I would say the Chargers, but losing a guru like schottenheimer and getting a loser like norv turner automatically downgrades them. he's going to overuse LT to the point where defenses will put 11 in the box.
i think right now the best teams are:
a) New England. they were already a great team, and getting these players jumpstarted them. adalius thomas is one of the best free agent signings in a while, donte stallworth is sick, and even though i dont think randy moss will play as well as he has before, getting him for a 4th round pick is a gamble worth taking
b) Indianapolis: Losing domonic rhodes is a big loss because addai will have to go through a whole season as teh only back. its time to see if the small guy is durable to do it all alone. still, there defense seemed strong in the playoffs and with manning, harrison, and wayne, you never know what they can do
c) this pick isn't really teh 3rd best team, but i think this will be the surprisingly good team this year:
yes, im saying it, the OAKLAND raiders will be contending for a playoff spot in the AFC. last year, their defense was 3rd in the NFL and their pass defense was first overall. their defense was extremely young and have just gotten experienced. sapp is the only old player there but he had 10 sacks last year and has lost FIFTY (50) pounds in the offseason. their defense is just fine. their offense was their problem last year. they addressed their offensive line by signing former pro-bowl center jeremy newberry, signed a starting offensive guard from denver (denver's O-line had been great the last few years, and this guy started there, and they drafted mario henderson. they got dominic rhodes and drafted a steal in michael bush. they also signed justin griffith, starting fullback on atlanta, who led the league in rushing the last couple of years. they also traded for josh mccown to start at qb until the phenom jamarcus russell is ready. this team sounds scary.

Talent-wise, I'd have to say the Chargers. However, Norv Turner has the ability to get the most out of quarterbacks, while the rest of the team goes to hell in a basket. Patriots have the best receiver corps, at least on paper. Saints look REAL dangerous. Probably have to go with the Saints, even though I'm a 49ers fan (I still see them about a season away from dominating the NFC...again)

Seattle Seahawks are the best team in the NFL. Going for their fifth straight post season appearance in an easy division. Walter Jones is the best in the business and Sean Locklear is getting better (he will be going to Hawaii this Feb.) Hasselbeck will be completely healthy this year. Alexander will steamroll through the NFL this year. One of the best wideout corps in the league. No longer the deepest without DJack but still better than most teams. Mack Strong will make the Pro Bowl this year for the third year in a row. On defense, we got Kerney, Fisher, and Tubbs who anchor our D line. Rocky Bernard will be able to go wild on QBs this year. Best linebacker trio in the league. Leroy Hill will finally make the Pro Bowl, and Petersen and Tatupu go every year. Tatupu is the second coming of Junior Seau. He has not played a season where he has not gone to the Pro Bowl or the post season. He won a championship his last two years at USC. Our secondary went from being a major liability to a major strength. We signed a coverage FS in Deon Grant who will be the QB of the secondary. Trufant will break into the elite CB in the league. Kelly Jennings will be a starter this year. Kelly Herndon and Babineax will be battle it out for the nickel and dime spots. They could start for a number of teams. Boulware will rebound in a major way this year. Deon Grant will make sure he knows where to be. AND we have an easy schedule this year. Write us in for Arizona in February in ink.
