what if you answer a question, and a idiot did something wrong, could they sue you?

I do worry about this sometimes. The answer is Yes. The complaint will likely be that they followed some advice, reliance, and were damaged as a result. Could they prevail, perhaps. And, it iwll be expensive to defend. There may be legal precedents on this in some states that could prevent the complaint from going forward. The matter of damages would require the "idiot" as you stated to be seriously harmed.

I'm sure they could try, but proving the case would be difficult. The forum suggests to people that other, ordinary people are answering your questions, not experts, so there's no reason to rely on their information. If the answerer put something like "I'm a CPA" under the source and the questioner went out and did something illegal with his taxes because of the advice, there could very well be some sort of culpability. In short, it would depend entirely on the circumstances.

Can we sue those who are stupid enough to take the advice?

Yes, the stupid person could, but he would need a greedy lawyer that charges in advance.

The answer to the question will come to you in a burst of insight if you set fire to your couch.
