I felt the interview went really well. I was told the background check can take anywhere from 2-7 days. When does it become clear that I will not be hearing back from the company and I was not selected? Is it all right to e-mail them about what is going on? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I was sent an application for the job and a background check form via e-mail after the interview. The first answer alluded to this, but is a background check a good sign that they are looking to hire an applicant?

Also, I know my current boss at my work-study job received a call from the company confirming my work experiences on May 3rd. Is this a good sign?

I am a college sophomore and I applied for a summer internship. I have never gone through this process so it is completely foreign to me.

When ever an employer begins a background check that is a good sign for the applicant. Background checks cost any where from $50 - $150 (depending on how much is being checked) if they are done by an outside company. Employers don't take that step unless they are really interested in an applicant. Realistically they usually take 5 - 7 business days. If you returned it to them last Monday April 30th, then they are probably just today getting information back from the various sources they are contacting. It's still a little bit soon for you to worry about it today, but I know you are anxious to find out where you stand. The fact that they called one of your former bosses is a good sign and shows that they are really are checking your background out!

I would wait until maybe Wednesday (May 9th) and give them a call to see where the process is at and get an update from them. An e-mail is ok, but you'll get a faster response to a phone call in most cases.

Good Luck!!

It depends on a couple of things.
1. How many different counties you've lived in. If you've only lived in one county, it is faster because all of your records are in the same place. Multiple counties can take much longer. The last background check that was ran on me took 3 weeks to come back.

2. If the application went through. If it has been two weeks, call the employer and follow up. "Hi, I'm Bob and I processed an online background check on this date. Have you heard anything back yet?" The reason for this is, sometimes they slip through the cracks.

As a head's up- I run a background check for every person I interview whether I hire them or not. If I'm not sure if I'm going to hire them and they pass background, I do a second interview and decide then. Being asked to do background is not an indication of getting a job.

In a bigger company where a background check is required, this is the norm. The company eats the cost as part of doing business.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNLZz

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

I believe they intend to hire you or would not be doing a background check. It would be very expensive to check on every single applicant if the intent was not to hire.
I suspect you will hear back in the next 2 weeks. They are always slow.

Have you already sent a thank you note? If not, express your interest in the position (name the job title in your note), also how much you enjoyed your discussion with ??? (interviewer). Ask if there is anything more you can provide.
Be sure and note your cellphone number.

If you hear nothing about a week after, call the office of the person who interviewed you.

Good luck....

Background checks don't always come back within the expected time frame. Other times, they will come back the next day. Employers usually don't run a background check unless they intend to hire you. It wouldn't hurt to send a follow-up e-mail. Just don't make it sound too pushy.

For me, it took 2 days. Why perform a background check if you didn't get the job? Just wait. you will be working in no time.

i think its ok to call or email if you have waited the amount of time they told you to wait. so if they said 2-7 days, then you wait a week, maybe 2 weeks to be sure then you call. dont assume that you arent getting hired, sometimes hiring decisions can take awhile. it doesnt hurt to call or email.

sir, if you havent heard back by now, i would be scared. just make sure you look out the window for cops before answering the door and screen your phone calls, stop taking drugs if you are. if you are not doing drugs and you know your backround is clean, find out who is using your social security number, in short, you are seriously in a heap of trouble.
