In January of this year, I had an UTI. (Urinary tract infection) I took medication for it. Since then I've had about 2 mild cases. Today another one started and it HURTS! I've never been in so much discomfort. Why am I having so many in a short period of time? I shower/clean everyday and I pee every time after sex.

I get these frequently too; I have heard that once you start getting them you are prone to getting them. This is how I try to prevent them. Drink lots of water, wipe front to back, pee before and after having sex and take a cranberry supplement or drink cranberry juice (100%). Also a trick I have tried to clear up an UTI when I first susspect it; I will take an Alkaseltzer, this has worked several times for me. I have taken antibiotics for this too, but I hate doing that because I alway send up with a horrible yeast infection because the antibiotic kills off all that good bacteria that you do need. Hope this is helpful for you.

I used to get the every month, I have no idea what sparked them off. Making sure you use only white toilet paper and wear cotton underwear helps as the dyes in the toilet paper can make it flare up again and polyester drives it nuts too... Stress can also set it off too- There are many things...
For now if your doctor can not give any other cause for it, you can get soluble tablets to put in water from your pharmacy so you don't have to keep taking anti biotics- It should calm down after a little while. Just carry those tablets where ever you go just in case! Cranberry juice is also good for the water works...

I had the same thing happening to me just a month ago one right after another, so i went to my doctor and he said it could be numerous things like both you and boyfriend not showering before sex (which is very important because men have to touch when they go to the bathroom and there can be bacteria on there hands) sitting on a bed that has the bacteria that causes the UTI ( E coli) wearing tight clothes, citrus and cause it like (orange juice and oranges), making sure you wipe front to back, i could go on and on about things that cause them. If they keep up go to a specialist like i did a urologist and they can help out alot. In case you cant make it there soon to get out of discomfort go to your local drug store and get AZO for UTI it works like a charm and increase your fluids like double up. I hope you feel better i know this is one of the worst feeling ever.

This could also be an indicator that you have a condition called Interstitial Cystitis. One of the symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis can be chronic urinary tract infections.

I would recommend asking your dr to send you to a urologist to evaluate for this condition as one possible reason. To learn more about Interstitial Cystitis please check out: http://www.ic-network.com
