my laptop is 700MHz, with 64MB memory. it's running WinXP Home Ed. my screen freezes up when I click things too fast. is it because it's running XP with only 64MB? if i switch it to Win2000, would it run faster? or it simply needs more memory?

please help and give me some opinions. thanks!

You need more memory, your processor is alos slow. You should run a minimum of 256 MB of RAM (memory) for your machine.

First, you should have a minimum of 512mb of RAM to run WinXP effectively. Because you are using a laptop, the system is probably sharing the RAM with your video. This will mean even less memory for your programs to utilize. I would suggest you first check on the MAX memory that can be installed into your laptop. If you can get to 512mb good, if you can make it to 1GB GREAT. If you cannot reach any of these numbers then yes, i would suggest looking at Win2000. Be sure to install Win2K Service Pack 4 and install all the windows updates. You should be able to run nearly all the WinXP apps on 2000. Just be wary of of the memory requirements for anything you install.

Does ur laptop say anything like designed for windows XP, I mean when you bought the laptop what was the Operating system installed in it? If it was XP and it runs slow now, its bcoz of some virus or spywares in ur laptop. If it had some other operating sys and u installed XP and it started to run slow now, it clearly suggests that ur laptop doesnt support XP and if you want to run XP on it u need to increase ur memory and most probably the processor as well.

But I wud suggests that instead of increasing ur memeory and processor u cud go for a new laptop as you know computer stuffs keeps changing everyday and its waste of money.

I am very impressed that you got Windows XP to load with only 64MB of memory. Windows 2000 will not help you either. That system just needs to be replaced. 700MHz and 64MB of memory will not be sufficient for much of anything these days.

1) You don't have a lot of space. That's a problem.
2) Win2000 = Frankenwindows. Don't.
3) You need an upgrade. If your computer is unupgrade-able, you need to get a new one because that simply won't do.

I had the same problem. It's a couple of things. I was using too much of memory for silly things and I had a Trojan virus!!

So I suggest to you, to go to your control panel and got to the clean up wizard and will clean up programs that you rarely or never use. Then go on line and download another program to clean up any viruses that you have. I downloaded One-Care from windows something like that. Just download the free trial though, it's for like 90 days. You should be good after that. Good luck!!

Whenever I'm running slow, I do the following things:
Check to see if I need more RAM.
Run an anti-virus program
Go to my internet service, and under OPTIONS I clear all cookies, temporary file, and page history
Defragment the hard-drive and
Run scan-disk to see if I have bad sectors.

These usually work. And although you may not need more RAM, there is almost NO computer operation that does not improve somewhat from adding some.

Yes,you should upgrade your ram.But if you dont want to ungrade it,There are 2 things you can do to speed up it.
First,Corruption and Errors within your registry. The registry is a main part of your laptop's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your laptop could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed laptop up by 300%. You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://speed-up-pc.info/index.php?t=speedpc
lists top 5 registry cleaner, from there you can download and scan for free.
Second,Your laptop is loaded with spyware/adware.spyware/adware hamper your computer's performance. It use system resources and slow your laptop down.

So, to speed up your slow laptop, use a registry cleaner software and clean your registry files first. It will make all the difference, and provide you with the immediate fix you need for your slow computer. Then, download a good anti-spyware to get rid of spyware/adware in your laptop.

Low on memory, viruses, or unneeded files taking up lots of space. Id say scan for viruses if nothing comes up then do as followed.. click start > all programs > accessories > system tools> disk clean up. It should clean out all those compacted and unneeded files used for downloading and all that good stuff.

Hope this helps.

The RAM is extremely too low. You MUST upgrade to atleast 512MB. Go to www.crucial.com to see what type of RAM you need. The type matters alot. If you get the wrong type, then the RAM won't fit in the computer.
