I moved here to Madison for college and can't stand this state. Especially with it's gay marriage ban. Thankfully I can use I-90 after graduation to speed out as soon as possible and let them freeze with no scenery lol. What do you guys think of cheeseland?

Otter-No offense but why would I want to live in a state where the vote made it clear that the majority of people hate gays, when the state doesn't have much to offer anyway. I've been to Baraboo, Door County, and Northern Wisconsin and was not impressed with the scenery.

Jay - If they moved to FL they didn't like WI. MN is a different state completely.

Otter - I guess we are just looking for different things. Honestly I only really like liberal ocean states with a large gay population. I was one of the people too that voted against the gay marriage ban in WI, but it passed something like 70-30%. I honestly hope you can get it overturned. WI is really not that bad, just not my thing. I'm just sick of Madison after 4 years but it was fun for a year. But I could see how it would be alright if you want a low-key lifestyle.

Jay - I'm sorry I hope you didn't think I was being rude, feel free to move to WI if you want. Most people are nice. I look/act straight so I never have a problem but if I am with a friend that acts gay in the slightest there seems to be an unspoken "gay police". Except maybe on State St. I agree that MN is better, I've met more hot gay guys there. I like Minneapolis, cold weather just isn't my thing. If you want to move to the midwest I would recommend Chicago or Minneapolis.

Trucker - Sorry I didn't mean to trash WI. It's just my opinion, I'm more of a west coast and FL fan. I agree with you that there are much worse midwestern states. Michigan and Ohio are much worse, and I would choose MN, WI, IL or IN over them in a heartbeat.

Agreed, contrary to popular opinion by people who haven't been there, Madison is not a "beautiful city". Why does eveyone say that, just because of the lakes? Every place has lakes lol. It's more of a third-rate Washington DC wannabe. I have met a couple hottt gay guys there, like you ;), but not as many as FL.

I was looking up how madison is such a snobby city because i live there and hate it and i found this. Madison is definetely not conservative at all anymore!!! Us liberals took it over but its still a shitty city with post grad uw madison snobby students. Most of the snobby students are beer bellied basic heteros with their daddys money and their selfish attitudes being rude to the homeless. Even though alot of the city is gay friendly, theres still all those people there that think they are sophisticated but they really are people no one outside of madison will like. Almost every milwaukee person I've talked to is friendly and even agrees that most madisonites are f*cking snobs that think they are something. Alot of the post grad people i met that don't come from madison are nice.

I suggest you transfer somewhere else as soon as possible. Just out of curiosity, what made you go to Wisconsin in the first place?

(Snap snap snarl) Well, that's just fine and dandy then, little boys. Get your butts out of my state as soon as you can. Take the Interstate and head where ever you need to go and take your nasty little attitudes with you. You have no idea what scenery there is because you've never been out of Madison. As for freezing, you haven't seen anything yet. Last winter was nothing. it get's colder -- about 40 below colder. Mwhahaha. Head 'em out, Rawhide.

If you're looking for a gay mecca like Shelley said, you're not going to find it here. Although Madison is tolerant, it's also very conservative and one has to choose one's battles carefully. The same for Milwaukee and any other city. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and am now happily ensconced in Oshkosh with my Partner of 26 years. But I say again, the highways are open.... you don't have to stay if you don't want to.

They don't "hate gays". Wisconsin is very open actually to civil unions. The gay marriage/civil union amendment hurts not only us but a great deal of straight couples here too and we're trying to get it overturned. It was worded so that the older generation mistook it for an attack on "religion" and backed by a very powerful and heavily monied Right-wing faction. We couldn't compete. Most of Wisconsinites would like to see Gay couples having civil unions but not a "marriage".
As for the Dells, the Baraboo Bluffs and such, I grew up a little south and west of there and I am rather fond of the scenery. The farm was 15 miles from nowheres, so I'm used to isolation and don't need the city to make my amusement. I'd much rather talk to trees than your type of friends.
And lastly, as for offense, you knew you were placing a mildly offensive question when you wrote it. Don't pretend you didn't but I do accept your apology.

I'm a born and bred cheesehead and damn proud of it. I travel all over the Midwest and southeast while trucking and while I find many other states have some merit I am always glad to be back in Wisconsin. So, for those who are unenlightened to what we have here, so be it, live where you will. But don't go trashing my state. I don't go trashing other states---just their drivers (Michigan has the worst! then Chicago in itself!). I guess everyone has their opinions but you know what they say.... opinions are like *******-everyone has one and everyone is one.

I went to Wisconsin once and ate a delicious apple dumpling.

I lived in Oshkosh years ago, and LOVED it there!!!!!!

Of course, if all you want is a gay mecca, then you ARE in the wrong place. Wisconsin embraces traditional values. For someone like me who is NOT seeking out hoards of homosexuals, it can be a GREAT place to live!

I'll edit my entire answer then and just agree. While some of the people in WI are nice, I have no use for the state at all. It's cold, and apparently the majority of its residents wouldn't like me being there, but that goes for every state.

I guess I'd rather just move to Canada.
