Okay so i picked out Walden to read as my summer reading book. Is it a challenging text and how good is it?

You picked out the best-known work of non-fiction by an American, Henry David Thoreau, who spent two years, two months and two days living in woods owned by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Also known as "Life in the Woods," Thoreau takes great pains to discuss philosophical issues based on going back to nature.

I hope you love it as many people, including myself, have. Don't cheat and read study guides. Take the book to a park and read the entire work for yourself.

One of the most famous quotes:

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears the beat of a different drummer.”

The book is a fairly easy read but I think understanding it depends a lot on who you are as a person at that moment. Its an AMAZING piece of literature. His language, his use of metaphors is mind blowing. I read this piece 3 times and everytime i read it, I get something different from it. As others have said, I agree that you should read it alone, when your in a park or something and don't read it all at once! Read little parts here and there. reading it all at once makes it seem overwhelming. Enjoy =)

It's tough in places but you don't have to read it in sequential order. most of the chapters are their own things and can be read alone. I find it best to browse for something that catches my eye, cause when Thoreau gets me going, that's some good stuff right there.

lately been loving sounds.
