I have a 1989 Toyota Celica convertible and the weatherstrip for the roof rail is worn out and rain comes into the car. I cannot find a new one, and Toyota has discontinued the item. How can I repair it? I am pretty handy, but I don't feel like making a mold for the whole peice. Is there a quick and easy way? Thanks!

The part may be discontinued but there is still stock out there...The toyota dealership should have a database of all the dealerships...

They can do a part number search to find out if any dealership in the country has this item in there old stock..The trick is finding a parts man that will help you out...Most of them do not want to spend 5 extra minutes on there database to locate..Then they have to call the other dealership to get it shipped to them...Alot of trouble isnt it...ha ha

It really isnt any trouble, but most parts departments will not offer the service unless it is a high dollar item...

good luck

You may be able to modify a weatherstrip from a different model Toyota or a different year that would be available but it could be an expensive effort...some weatherstrips are 60.00 or more so you want to get one as close to your needs as possible. I would start with the previous suggestion and get the part number for the correct one and do a national search through a dealer to see if anyone has one lying on a shelf somewhere. Or try a search with some salvage yards in your area...they have locators nationwide also and may be able to come up with a replacement part. Good luck, Paul

See if your local windshield replacement store has anything that will work
