I'm constantly hitting myself REALLY hard on my wrist and palm with rubberbands. I'm basically addicted to the pain. It has bled quite a few times. Is this bad for me? Should I try to stop doing it? Is it self mutilation?

It sounds like it is bad for you, especially if it's bleeding. It's not traditional self-mutilation like cutting, which is to release pent-up emotions, but it is some form of it. I would stop...

I had a friend that was drop dead beautiful with gorges blond hair, beautiful tan, great figure and the whitest teeth I have ever seen. She should have been on the covers of magazines, instead she hated herself so much she was a mutilator just like you. I asked her why she did that and she said it's just a way of letting off anger. She was trying to stop and I was encouraging her when she came to me one night to "sew" her up 'cause she had cut too deep this time and didn't want anyone to find out; I did with only ice to numb the pain. I often wonder where she is now and did she ever conquer her razor slashing anger with herself. Honey, you have to conquer your own demons and slicing yourself is NOT the answer. Call the 800 number because IT IS confidential. You didn't say where you are now so I must presume that you are at your dads. Go to the department of mental health and tell them what's going on with you; you could probably have sessions with a therapist free or at a very low cost. But either way, GET HELP. Good luck to you. Hey... look at it from the other side

What possible GOOD is it? (Can't find a reasonable answer can you?)

It is a form of self abuse and generally an indicator of low self-esteem. I am not trying to do a Sigmund on you here.. but consider that, if I am close, maybe the problem does not lie with rubber bands but with how you view yourself and how you perceive that others view you.

If I am right.. go talk to someone about this.. entire lives can be reshaped and turned around when you can share things and discuss solutions.

good luck...

Hitting and bruising addiction to pain and the suffering involved in all of this, this is self destruction slowly.. There may be an underlying cause as to why you feel comfortable with knowing that you are hurting yourself. Or better yet in knowing that you are destroying yourself. What helps to know is your age and what else is going on in your life or that which has already taken place, was it painful to experience? are you deeply depressed because of it?, You see it is unnatural to just want to destroy yourself, you use one pain to stifle the thoughts of another! Yes it is self mutilation, and I am suggesting you seek professional help because of it.

It may upgrade from that rubber band up to something worse and more harmful and could ruin your mind forever!

Why do you want to hurt yourself? Yes, there is a problem, when you are hurting yourself. If you like pain, sign up for Karate, I did, and studied for 10 years, and yes, there is a lot of pain that goes with the practice, until your body gets strong, and can take the punishment, and I have to say, I enjoyed my practice, as it calms you down, and helps in clearing the mind of things that bother you.

I did this for about 2 months, i never bled but my wrist became very red and itchy for the whole two months. I was doing it either when i was really stressed, or when i had to keep from biting my finger nails. I would suggest stopping....just, STOP. if you think about doing it...resist the urge, your stronger than that.

Yes, you definitely need to stop. If you can't stop, you need to find someone who can help you stop. The problem is that it will eventually progress in more serious things. The deeper the hole you dig for yourself, the harder it is going to be to get out. So stop now.
